How to Thrive: Mind & Body Wellbeing for the Modern Woman

by Nickie Hursthouse

How to Thrive is the podcast for women transform their relationship with food, cultivate body confidence and unlock their true potential.

Your host, Nickie Hursthouse is a mum, business owner, dietitian and yoga teacher. Nickie has worked in the world of behaviour change and nutrition for 12 years. In that time she has seen how disconnected we have become from our bodies and how this then impacts how we feel around food.

By reconnecting with our body, respecting its needs and nourishing it properly, all women can feel confident around food and in their body.  Because everybody deserves to feel good in their body.

Nickie has coached CEOs, business leaders, business owners and everyday women to heal their relationship with food, with their body, unlock more energy, master their stress and have the resources they need to thrive.

We aren’t meant to navigate this world alone, community and accountability are essential when we want to make change. Nickie hopes this podcast will be your go-to place to educate and inspire, coming directly to you each week, and that it will allow you to take the first step towards where you want to be.

15. How to make change STICK in 2024

25m · Published 01 Jan 04:00

Hello 2024! It is great to be back recording for the New Year. It is the time of year that we see and hear a lot about New Year Resolutions. Goals for the coming year and commiseration on failing on past resolutions.

But, after working in behaviour change and nutrition for the past 12 years I have seen some common themes come up as to why we can't get those resolutions or goals to stick. In this episode of How to Thrive I am sharing with you:

  • The three reasons why we can't make goals or resolutions stick and what we can actually do to get change to STICK.
  • Why you need to know your WHY
  • What actually happens to us when we make change in any part of life, no matter how positive it is
  • The key to moving forward when things are uncomfortable and challenges pop up
  • What the secret to life altering change is

In the episode I talk about the Iceberg - and you can listen to an episode about this topic itself right here: Ep 8: The Iceberg Analogy - the foundation for thriving as a modern woman.

I also refer to an exercise I work through with my clients which I sharing with you. A series of questions and prompts to help you review, reflect and reset for the new year. Grab your free copy here.

9. How are you being weird about food?

17m · Published 23 Aug 02:00

The question I propose for this week's episode is "Why do we get so weird when it comes to food?"

Part rant, part storytelling, this episode of How to Thrive dives into how we can all get a little weird about food, and most importantly why.

Food intersects every part of our lives and often it is not as simple as what it might seem on the surface.

Tune into this episode to hear me talk about:

  • The number one reason why we can be weird about food
  • Ways you might be getting a bit weird about food
  • Three stories from my working life that might help give you a bit of perspective (and/or compassion) towards others when it comes to food
  • How to eat in a way that works for you
  • My own weird thing when it comes to food

How are you making food weird in your life? I would love to hear. Comment over on Instagram to let me know.

It isn’t about these things being good or bad, it’s a zero judgement space, I want to understand more about how we think about food and a lot of these things are things that other people experience too!

If you want to know how to eat in a way that works for you, I encourage you to book a free call with me and we can have a chat.

7. Navigating hunger with interoceptive awareness

30m · Published 19 Jul 07:00

Have you ever thought "I can't be hungry, I just ate an hour ago?". Thoughts like these can cause so much confusion between the body and the mind. The body is telling you one thing, but your mind another.

In this episode of How to Thrive, I dive into hunger and interoceptive awareness. I explore how our body sends us signals to tell us it needs sustenance, but how these signals can be difficult to feel, hear or understand after years of food rules and food restriction. I explain the concept of interoceptive awareness, what it is and why it is something we can restore, if we have lost it over the years.

Tune into this episode to hear me talk about:
- Hunger - what is it?
- What interoceptive awareness is and how we can restore it
- What attunement disrupters are and how they impact your hunger cues and overall nourishment
- Three times when you can't always rely on your hunger cues - but your body still needs to be nourished
- Tools to help understand your hunger such as the hunger awareness scale.

Nourishment is a crucial part of self-care and if you're having difficulty tuning into your hunger cues book a free 30 minute discovery call today.
