Episode 19 // Glen E Friedman

1h 33m · Published 14 Sep 16:43

If you don’t know the name Glen E Friedman, you’ll almost certainly know his work, and if you don’t know the work you’ve not had your eyes open for the last 40 years. Glenisresponsiblefor some of the mosticonic imagery of the skateboarding, punk and hip hop scenes, and someone I've been a big fan of for a long time.

I first encountered Glen’s work when I picked up Keep Your Eyes Open off my brother’s bookshelf when I was about 15 - a collection of Glen’s work with the band Fugazi. At this stage I was shooting live music around Leeds andBradford, and in keeping with the title of the book had my eyes opened by the intimacy and energy within the work, and therelationship that was there betweenphotographer and band.

As someone who has been pretty wellinterviewed in the past, I didn’t want to ask Glen too much that he’d been asked already, and I think the result is a great chat.Hope you enjoy theconversation as much as I did!

You should find him on Instagram @glenefriedman, whereyou can see a host of his archive images, and also keep up to date with whatever he has in the works for the future.

This episode was recorded as a webinar for Teamwork and Phase One, which I hosted last week, where I was joined by landscape photographers Joe Cornish and Paul Reiffer, along with Lau Nørgaard from the R&D team at Phase One. It’s a super nerdy chat about Phase One camera systems, so a warning for anyone who doesn’t like tech talk, you might want to skip this one. Being someone who loves super nerdy camera talk, I enjoyed it a lot! I have some Neutral Exposure discount codes for Capture One Pro software, so if you would like a cheaper route into using the best RAW processor on the market, drop me a line [email protected].
