StarShipSofa No 681 Doug C Souza

41m · Published 02 Mar 06:00

Main Fiction: "The Kaleidoscope City" by Doug C. Souza.

This story first appeared in Asimov's in December, 2019.

Doug C. Souza has been published three times in Asimov’s with my Novelette “Mountain Screamers” and short stories “The Callisto Stakes” and "The Kaleidoscope City." He won first place in the Writers of the Future Contest with his short story “The Armor Embrace,” which is included in their 2017 anthology. Each of the above mentioned stories has been performed on StarShipSofa.

Doug C. Souza wrote this story after his dad had a rough bout with his chemotherapy treatment. His father made it through, but it was a scary time. Mr. Souza wanted to capture the moments he shared when he used to go on hikes with his dad--except this time, he wanted to walk somewhere besides Earth. Ironically, Mr. Souza’s three-year-old daughter started asking about visiting other planets around the same time.

This is why Mr. Souza loves writing. Not only was he able to see the story as a child walking with their parent, but the parent getting to take one last adventure with their child.

Narrator: Tatiana Grey.

Tatiana is a critically acclaimed actress of stage, screen, and the audio booth. She has been nominated for dozens of fancy awards but hasn’t won a single damned thing. She went to NYU and lives in Brooklyn, New York. You can find her at tatianagrey.com.
