#11 Contact Casting Directors like a professional

3m · Published 01 Feb 08:00

Have the confidence to contact casting directors like a professional.

No one wants to sound like an amateur, especially when you're talking to the person who might be able to give you a job. We know that casting directors are busy people, under a lot of pressure, so what can we do to make their life a little easier? In my opinion, it's getting straight to the point.

Once you've established a relationship with them, then you can be more personable, but until then, don't waste a minute of their time.

Tell them:

  • Why you’re contacting them
  • Roughly where you’re based and availability
  • Offer to self-tape or meet
  • Your contact details

#9 Who gets paid the Least on stage?

5m · Published 15 Aug 05:00

As young performers, we never think about how much we're going to earn when we're older.

Performing is all we care about, and although I love the innocence of that, I do think it’s important to know what you’re getting yourself into.

In most cases, you don't get paid an hourly rate and it's unlikely that all members of the cast will be on the same fee. In fact, some members of the cast will get preferential treatment.

There are things you can do to make yourself more valuable, and it's as easy as developing more than one skill.

At My Theatre School, we offer mentorship, guidance, and some of the very best training you'll find online. If you haven't had the chance to check out 'The Academy' yet, I strongly recommend you do so now.

#7 How much does it cost to go to Drama College?

7m · Published 01 Aug 05:00

It doesn't matter which dance or drama college you choose to go to, it's going to be expensive.

In this episode, I've prepared a couple of case studies for you. These are real-life examples of students I have worked with who didn't think it was financially possible for them to go to Dance or Drama College.

There are a lot of figures in this episode that might sound scary at first, but don't let it put you off. There is plenty of support out there and I'll discuss a few of the options in this week's episode.

#6 How do you become a Professional Performer?

15m · Published 25 Jul 05:00

In this episode, we're going to go through the different stages of how you could become a singer, dancer, or actor.

There are lots of different ways you could do this but we're going to go through the most common version. From Kids Drama Club, through College or University to being cast in your first project.

It's important to mention that I have gone to the extremes with these examples and at times I've made it sound almost impossible, but do not let anything I say in this episode put you off.

You can be hugely successful in this industry, but it's important to know how hard it 'could' be.
