“I’m interested in the legacy of colonialism...I’m interested in the political dysfunction of Nigeria...I want to engage with history through the images.” Sunday Mornings with BlackOnBlack is a new podcast aiming to give a voice to young BAME creatives. Interviews with BlackOnBlack Publishing contributors will allow you to get to know the amazing minds behind the online publications and gain an insight into the backgrounds of a wide range of artists and how this influences their creative process. The Artist | Funmi Lijadu ***Edit*** In regards to the comments made about nigerians having drivers, it is only a reality for a fraction of Nigerians. There is a large expanding middle class but many people still struggle. The privilege of drivers is commonplace but not universal. Funmi Lijadu, is an 18 year old Nigerian artist. Storytelling through different mediums is vital to her, whether it be writing, making collages or reading. Her experiences as a female of colour drives her towards interrogating and retelling misguided stories perpetuated about black identity in the media. You can find more of her work on Instagram: @fumlij or on her website funmi-lijadu.squarespace.com About us | BlackOnBlack Publishing BlackOnBlack Publishing is an inclusive publisher of art, photography and literature with a focus on the BAME community. The aim of BlackOnBlack Publishing is to create a community of people (not just POC), where BAME art and literature can be celebrated without the expectation of a certain topic, theme or style of artistry but instead with a focus on high quality, beautiful art and writing. We want to affect change and positivity not solely through publications but through immersive events, workshops and the Sunday Morning podcast with our contributors. You can find out more about the company, discover the beautiful work of our artists, read through poignant pieces in the journal or submit your own work at blackonblackpublishing.co.uk. Our last event was Sip + Sketch w/ BlackOnBlack Publishing. Sip + Sketch is a life drawing session for everyone with the focus of celebrating BAME bodies of all types. The session aims to not only give you the experience of drawing giving time near the end of the session for any attendees to volunteer to sit for a short while.
