My First Solo!

23m · Published 22 Mar 21:25

In this episode I discuss my first solo trip to California & the importance of prioritizing yourself and your needs. If you are in need of a break, schedule time for yourself. Give yourself that uninterrupted space to grow. Always remember that 1%. Strive to do 1% better everyday. Create healthy habits that will help create the life YOU want. When you strive to be 1% better everyday, you then celebrate the small accomplishments. Life is a journey, don't rush. Good things take time. Pace yourself, love yourself, be yourself.

*The info I learned about creating healthy sustainable habits that will last a lifetime is from the book *Atomic Habits* By James Clear*

The real quote: "Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end."- John Lennon

Mistake + Time = Unexpected Blessing

24m · Published 28 Jun 20:59

In this episode I discuss the importance of trusting the process and divine timing. Everything doesn't always go according to plan, people make mistakes, don't stress. Trust that one mistake can turn into one of your biggest blessings, if you're patient. You may not always see the vision when the mistake is made, but don't stress. Mistakes can either be lessons or blessings, it all depends on you. I made the mistake of not checking my academic progress when I thought I was complete. I made the mistake of not being informed of the changes within my program while I was away. I was the one dealing with the consequences of my actions. I was angry, sad and disappointed with myself. It took a whole year for me to realize that the mistake I made in 2020, was one of my biggest blessings in 2021. I am forever grateful that I was able to have my graduation ceremony. I am forever grateful that my mother and son were able to see me graduate. I am forever grateful that God blessed me with the wisdom, perseverance and guidance to finish! Trust in him and everything will fall into place. Thank you for spending your time in Kate Land. Until next time. With love, Kate. xo

Creating Balance In Your Life.

10m · Published 22 Mar 23:48

In this episode I discuss the importance of creating balance in your life. This is something that I have been working on for a while, especially after becoming a mother.  It will not be easy but it is necessary. It's necessary to accomplish all of your goals, to maintain healthy relationships and to manage your time wisely. Despite what people think, everyone does NOT have the same 24 hours. We do not all have the same priorities and resources. While I wish it was a level playing field, that is not reality. Everyone does not have the support, time or money to prioritize themselves & their dreams. People become slaves to their jobs. Whether it's a 9 to 5 or you're a creative making money online, it's easy to let it consume you. Always remember that life is much more than money and material things. Don't get caught up with work 24/7 and you don't make time for your family, hobbies and alone time. When you learn to balance your life, you become the leader. The boss. The CEO.. BUT If the dream fails, you have no one to blame but the boss.

Thank you so much for spending your time in Kate Land. Until next time.

Black Mental Health Matters. Discussing The Importance Of Mental Health In The Black Community.

14m · Published 27 Feb 22:52

In this episode I discuss how many of the elders in the Black community do not prioritize mental health. I do not blame them for what they did not know or how they were raised. They grew up in a different time without the resources we have today. I try to not make excuses while still holding our community accountable. We've made amazing progress but we still have a long way to go. Yes the Black community is strong and resilient but we have feelings. Express those feelings in a healthy manner. Black women don't have to be superheros 24/7, Black men don't have to be super masculine 24/7. We can be sensitive, delicate and vulnerable about our feelings. Please don't let this world harden your heart and soul. You are human. You deserve a safe space to express your feelings. You are not overreacting. You deserve love and grace.  I hope you all take care of yourself. Thank you so much for spending your time in Kate Land. Until next time. With love, xo

10 Black Television Shows/Films You Need To Watch!

7m · Published 13 Feb 08:31

In this episode I give you a list of 10 Black television shows and films that DO NOT focus the story line around trauma. In my last episode I spoke on how majority of black television seems to be full of pain. While I do believe that Black people are very strong and resilient, I do not believe that we should be defined by our pain. We are so much more than slavery, poverty and the hood. We are doctors, lawyers, engineers, parents, CEO's, educators, wives & husbands & friends. We have feelings, thoughts and opinions. We deserve to have a broad variety of entertainment that represents us. We deserve to not be generalized. I hope to be apart of the change happening in television.  I hope everyone enjoyed my top 10! Let me know of any Black shows or movies that I need to watch. Thank you for spending your time in Kate Land. With love, Kate. xo

The Black Experience Is Not Monolithic. Television Does Not Need More Shows Revolving Around Black Trauma

7m · Published 06 Feb 05:11

NOTE: My voice might sound weird, I'm recovering from a cold. :(

In this episode I speak on my experience of growing up as a Black girl in a predominantly white neighbourhood. Although it might not be the "norm" to the general public, it is "normal" for millions of Black people worldwide. I explain that the Black experience is NOT a monolith. We are unique individuals with unique childhoods and experiences. This should be reflected in the media. We should not be limited to our trauma. We have so much more to offer. The negative stereotypes do not define us. We need to continue to create television, film and music that doesn't limit us to a portion of our past. I am so proud of the progression of our community but still eager to do MORE. I hope everyone enjoys the episode. Thanks for spending your time in Kate Land. With love, Kate. xo
