Alternative Ending

This week's episode is a take-two on The Red: An Erotic Fantasy by Tiffany Reisz. We always have a lot to say when we record these episodes. This book inspired a lot of discussion about other ways it could have gone down. We talked about Sebastian and Spencer and all of the ways we imagined it happening differently. Most importantly, Kandy and Ivy pretty much brawled about how much needs to be explained at the end of a story.  We really need to know what you think so vote in our poll!

Exploring Perverts in Art History

57m · Published 06 Jun 11:00

This time on What the Smut, we discuss The Red: An Erotic Fantasy by Tiffany Reisz. Kandy was looking for a paranormal romance with sex work as a key component when she found this beauty. What we didn't count on was a brilliant concept, some amazing art history, and boundary-pushing sex acts. We rated the heat level in this book as erotic due to all of the wild acts. As of this writing, the book is in the amazing kindle unlimited catalog. Just another amazing reason to subscribe. We had no idea art history could be so sexy! A pervy ghost that can bring paintings to life sure doesn't hurt the premise. Mona gets herself into some very interesting situations and always seems to have the right outfit for the scene. We argued about if we like to have questions go unanswered.

The Erection Selection

50m · Published 11 Apr 11:00

In the second half of our discussion about A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor by Kathryn Moon we discuss sweet Esters escapades with her wide variety of erections, sex in public, aquaphilia, and how very much we loved this book!

Karen's sex toy corner we give Esters muff some love from ilovemymuff.com. We LOVE this site and we love the Muffinton Post!

Shameless Sex Work

54m · Published 04 Apr 11:00

This time on What the Smut we are discussing A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor by Kathryn Moon. Lisa requested a book with more sex from the Facebook group Deliciously Dark & Dirrty Readers and this is the recommendation that she chose for us. It is certainly a winner! We definitely are in the mood to slut praise our heroine Ester for finding her calling in monster sex work. She knows what she likes and isn't afraid to take it. The book is broken into two episodes because we had so many awesome characters to chat about. We rated the heat level in this book as erotic due to the incredible selection of erections.

Not every lady is cut out for sex work and fewer even for sex work with the things that go bump in the night. Thankfully Ester is not just any lady. We adored her devotion to her men and her vibrant spirit of exploration.  The first episode, Shameless Sex Work, brings up topics of safe sex, slut praising and Kandy tries to pop everyone's bubble about the myth of doctors vibrating women to orgasm due to hysteria.

We will be back next week with the conclusion to our discussion!

Shameless Dirty Romantic

57m · Published 21 Mar 11:00

This time on What the Smut we are discussing Deceived By The Gargoyles by Lillian Lark. Oh, how we love a shamelessly dirty romantic! Our psychometrician witch Grace finds her HEA in a clan of passionate Gargoyles who help her find the family she craves. They also don't mind giving her all of the sexy times she can handle and don't forget those knots! We rated the heat level in this book as erotic due to the knotting.

While Grace is the newbie to the clan, the existing romantic and sexual relationships between the fellows were also tooth aching sweet, in the very best way. We loved these characters to death and want more more more!

Tell Ivy how do you feel about being manipulated for your own good? Recommend a sex toy shop to Karen! Tell Kandy what smutty and sweet book you recommend for her to read next!

Tarot Secrets of American Romanticism, Smut, and Occultism

58m · Published 07 Mar 12:00

We are so thrilled to be talking with Thea Wirsching today about her work The American Renaissance Tarot. Thea takes us through her journey of conception and creation and shares how she wants this tarot deck to help us "enchant our sense of the American past".

Find Thea online at theplutobabe.com americanrenaissancetarot.com and one Instagram at @the_pluto_babe and @americantarot

Head over to What The Smut to take a look at all of the cards we discuss today.

Thea sees its deck somewhat like Our Tarot: A Guidebook and Deck Featuring Notable Women in History as the cards can be reviewed and absorbed one at a time to learn about the American Renaissance period, the literature, and the occultism. Thea and the deck are a treasure-trove of knowledge and we started out by talking about the role of women by discussing Victoria Woodhull who was a free lover and presidential candidate. Miss Woodhall was jailed for publishing the truth of Henry Ward Beecher's (represented on The Pope Card) extramarital affair because it was deemed pornographic.

We discussed Elizabeth Stoddard (on the Queen of Wands) and her novel The Morgesons (the 6 of wands) in contrast with Harriot Beecher Stowe (the Queen of Cups) and Susan Warner. Check out Theas blog 19th-century goth for even more about Stoddard. We also talked about Margaret Fuller's (the Empress Card) fall from grace, Emily Dickenson's (High Priestess) secret life, and the movie Wild Nights with Emily as discussed on the podcast Dyking Out.

Switching gears we talked about Herman Melville and the sperm squeezing in Moby Dick (Four of Wand) and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Paschal Beverly Randolph's (Lover card) contributions to occultism in contrast to the Fox sisters (The moon card). Thea turns us on to complex marriage with John Humphrey Noyes and his feminist sex-positive commune at the Oneida house. Continuing in the commune theme we discussed The Blithedale Romance (Three of Cups) by Nathanial Hawthorn and finished up with incomparable Walt Whitman (The World Card) and Leaves of Grass.

Falling For Their Forbidden Bullies

1h 1m · Published 28 Feb 12:00

It's time to talk about the bully romance Zodiac Academy: The Awakening by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti. These Gemini twins are in for the fight of their life when they get whisked away to a brutal Fae Academy where only the strong flourish. Their worst bullies are the ones who sit on their deceased parent's throne and will do anything to keep them down. We rated the heat level in this book as all the way.

We spend a lot of our time in this discussion just talking about the bully romance. We have varying degrees of experience with the theme and it was a really interesting discussion. What do you think of bulky romances? Why do you think they are so popular? We would love to hear what you think!
