Poet Curious is here for the nineteenth episode of Word Spoken. A man's who's fingers are seldom found outside of the numerous pies in which he tends to lodge his digits. Danny Martin: Kanye, Wifi and Testicles

52m · Published 09 Mar 00:00
Danny Martin's lyricism speaks to the restless dissatisfaction of a twenty-something man exploring the complexities of modern life. His poetry is characterised by croaky delivery, dry humour and indelible social commentary. Catch him live and you'll clock he tends to perform with a hands-behind-the-back, forward lean often associated with the Oasis frontman. All that's missing is the parka. The three poems we get to hear are '9 Grand a Year Kids', 'It Seems Influencers Living Our Dreams', and finally 'I Am Man'. Follow him on instagram at @dannymartin29. Enjoy!

Jamal Hassan: Police, Doughnuts and Murder Mystery

47m · Published 10 Feb 00:00
Jamal Hassan's bio reads " Jamal is the poetic equivalent of finding out that the drinks machine in your local McDonalds has quietly replaced its Pepsi button with spiced rum. He is confusing, frightening, delicious with ginger beer and lemon, and unhealthy in large doses". It's hard to sum him up in any other way so I thought why try? In this episode we talk about poetry in schools, how to make your performances comedic, his incredible poetry night Extra Second (@ExtraSecondLondon) and his exciting ventures into the world of combining spoken word with music. This guy is one to look out for! Come down to Bermondsey Project Space on 18th February to catch him perform at Build Love, Break Walls, an open mic night run by Shado (@Shado.mag). FREE drink on entry ;). On the show we get to hear '8:38', 'The Orgy', and finally 'Sleepwalk' - a horror piece that will shake you to you core. Jamie Merrick: Drab Sex, Shit Coke and Frowning Seaside Towns

44m · Published 03 Feb 00:00
As you can see from the title, episode 13 of the show is as unapologetically zesty as Jamie's beautifully protruding chest hair. Originally from the Isle Of Wight his performances are embellished with dreary British grit and dry-as-a-bone humour with each piece encapsulating the internal monologue of a park bench dwelling wordsmith. The three poems we get to hear from him are 'Love Carousel', 'Down the Isle' (not 'Isle of Wight' as I mistakingly name it in the intro), and finally 'Live Laugh Love'. To give him a follow on instagram head to @JamieKMerrick. Enjoy!
