Saving the Planet through Consciousness & Compassion (discussing A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle)

1h 3m · Published 04 Nov 19:00

We intentionally wanted to share this episode the day after the election, as I'm sure many of us are struggling with uncomfortable feelings of anger, disappointment and uncertainty. After reading the book, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, Madeleine and I discuss how the concepts presented in this book helped us to clarify our own faith and spirituality by grounding us in the present moment and reminding us of our connection to all living things.

If you're looking for some guidance on how to experience more peace and compassion moving forward - no matter what the outcome or who you were supporting for president - we encourage you to give this a listen and, as always, let us know what you took away from it.

Saving the Planet While Traveling The World (With Kelley Louise, Executive Director of the Impact Travel Alliance)

59m · Published 09 Sep 18:00

What if every trip you took helped to improve our world, regardless of the destination or type of travel? That idea is what inspired our guest today, Kelley Louise, to found Impact Travel Alliance (ITA), an organization working to educate and inspire people to travel in a way that empowers local communities and protects our planet.

ITA initiatives are based on education and advocacy around sustainable tourism – travel that has a positive impact on a destination’s environment, economy and culture. Sustainable tourism, while often viewed as a niche within the industry, can be applied to any type of travel. By working to incorporate sustainability into all types of travel experiences, we have the potential to change our world for the better.

Before diving in to all things sustainable travel with Kelley, Bonnie and Madeleine discuss how COVID quarantine has impacted their wellness routines, and what self-care looks like in the face of daunting global challenges like climate change.

Saving the planet through the strength of community

51m · Published 27 Jun 22:00

  • Simon Sinek on why communities/groups of 150 or less are ideal for humans (from Leaders Eat Last) - "The earliest groups of Homo sapiens lived in hunter/gatherer tribes that maxed out between 100 and 150 people. Amish and Hutterite communities are about 150 in size. The Bushmen of South Africa and Native Americans also live in groups that cap out at 150. Even the size of a company of Marines is about 150 people. That magic number is the number of close relationships we are naturally designed to manage...The reasons groups function best when they do not get bigger than about 150 people make perfect sense when you look closely. The first is time. Time is a constant --there are only twenty-four hours in a day. If we gave only two minutes to everyone we knew, we wouldn't get to know people very well and deep bonds of trust would likely never form. The other is brain capacity. We simply can't remember everyone. Which is why Dunbar's Number is about 150; some can remember more and some fewer...as Dunbar has noteiced in his research, when groups get bigger than about 150, the people are less likely to work hard and less likely to help each other out."
