AfterVenture S2 Episode 8: Summer Series - Maddy Espinoza: Crossfit Games Athlete

30m · Published 16 Jun 19:30
Maddy Espinoza (IG: @Maddy.Espinozaa) is an amazing teenage crossfit athlete. She recently qualified for her first crossfit games and is heading to Wisconsin to compete against the best in the world. However, Maddy is only 14 years old, just finished her freshmen year in high school and had to battle numerous obstacles to get to where she is today. Maddy was the new kid at school, had to face bullying issues because she is buff (aka rip, aka #SwolePatrol) and had a different body than most teenagers. She had to standup to the "mean girls" and most teenagers can truly go down a dark hole because of this... but not Maddy. She used this negative energy to dedicate herself to her training and to meet her goals of competing in the games. Maddy is an amazing kid, listen to her story on how she overcame obstacles and is now living out her dream. Help Maddy get to the Crossfit Games and donate to her GoFundMe page. www.gf.me/u/ipdahf.com or check out her IG page @Maddy.Espinozaa She is a true #GameChanger

AfterVenture S2 Episode 6 - Burnout: 5 Things to Help You With Work-Life Balance

16m · Published 11 Mar 22:58
Burnout - physical or mental collapse caused by overwork or stress. Top Causes for Employee Burnout...Work-life balance doesn’t exist! After researching numerous articles, etc. I break down 5 different ways to help you create a solid work-life balance. 1.Own the hours of the day. a.Don’t let the day happen to you. Take control, manage your time and adhere to your boundaries. If the day controls you, just relax and do at least one thing that you enjoy to close your day. Tomorrow is a new day! 2.Be Happy… if you don’t have balance in your life many people will not be happy. a.A 2015 study that evaluated data from more than 30,000 Americans found a strong correlation between reported happiness and a longer life, which was consistent regardless of other circumstances, like health, education level, marital status, or financial situation. b.Researchers from University College London measured the happiness of 3,800 people between the ages of 52 and 79 and then tracked their health. After five years, 7 percent of the least happy people had died, compared to 4 percent of the happiest people. The researchers then estimated that happy older people are 35 percent less likely to die within five years than unhappy folks—even after all other factors are taken into consideration. c.A Carnegie Mellon University study found that people who demonstrate positive emotions are less likely to become ill after being exposed to a cold virus. 3.Explore your passions, interests and imagination. a.Carve out the time to read, research and/or create. Feed the parts outside of what you would call “work” because more often than not, those personal interests that may give you great joy are neglected. Write them down and start keeping track. You might notice patterns and trends that can turn into new hobbies (or a career!). 4.Care for your body. a.Dial into your energy levels and food cravings to decode any messages your body may be sending you. You might uncover that you’re over-stressed which can cause sleeplessness. As a result, energy levels can plummet and your body craves sugar for pick-me-ups that don’t last. 5.Saying NO a.Research from the University of California in San Francisco shows that the more difficulty you have saying no, the more likely you are to experience stress, burnout, and even depression (three things that hinder your emotional intelligence). Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others.
