Chris is a life-long martial artist, retired six-time Muay Thai champion, health and wellness coach and podcaster. Ever since they met in a gritty boxing gym in lower Manhattan they’ve been a journey of sharing their love for physical culture and the combat arts. Though the pandemic of 2020 drastically shifted their lives they are still on the mission, through the Champ Up Chat podcast, to explore and share valuable information on the the habits, lifestyle and mindset that is crucial to championing health and well-being…for yourself and your loved ones. After being side-lined for months and being stuck in his own judgements, assumptions, interpretations and limiting beliefs, Chris finally set his ego aside to move forward. And with that decision, still faced a major set-back in preparation to return to the ring. Stepping up the competition will always have it's highs and lows, but that’s what it takes to grow. A huge part of growth is embracing fear and ego, but moving forward accordingly.

Chris earned the WKA North American Muay Thai title in 2004 just after coming home from the  IFMA World Championships held in Thailand. He talks about the whole experience in detail (the bloody shins) and shares what he thinks is the difference between winning and earning something. In this episode, he shares what he felt like when he won against his opponent, Jason Cutbill, and how important humility is in Muay Thai whether during triumphs or losses. Listen in as Chris and Sarah engage in a discourse about the coaching processes and how humility is strength under control.

Chris and Sarah talks about Chris’ re-entry into jiujitsu and getting back into Muay Thai as he was able to go to a friend’s gym in North Jersey wherein he’d get close contact with another trainee who tested positive for COVID. Chris emphasizes responsibility during this day and age— taking a week off when you don’t feel fine is the right thing to do especially when it comes to risking the people around you. In this episode, he also shares the difference between being a therapist, a coach, and a trainer. In this week’s Champ Up Chat, Chris and Sarah talk about the time when Chris landed a spot on Team USA for the Muay Thai World Cup in Thailand. He recalls what he went through during the training, the actual fight day; his wins, and his memorable losses that made him the fighter that he is today. Chris also shares his very recent re-entry into jujutsu and what it was like going back to training.

The Road of Trials

After putting Muay Thai on the back burner to commit himself to fatherhood, Chris walks us through the days that the sport reeled him back in. He decided to jump back in and fully engulf himself as a martial artist and as a role model for his son. He reignited his passion by seeking out a gym in New York City but, again, spent a short time there. His desire to find a coach that aligned with his principles as a Muay Thai fighter fell short and he found himself on his own again.

Finally, an opportunity to become a trainer has led him to create his own program, Metropolis Muay Thai to which he met a very special student that would get him back inside the ring.

In this episode, Chris continues his life story after his victorious Muay Thai debut. Chris narrates what happened when his father figure and coach, Tommy went back to Thailand and left the gym. He then talks about his experiences as a twenty-three-year-old dad and his efforts to break the cycle of his disconnection between him and his father.
