Romans: God's Life-Giving Prayer [Romans: 11]

38m · Published 12 May 17:05

Romans 8:26-27 // Paul Brandes

When was the last time you were left speechless by grief, disappointment, loneliness, frustration?

Maybe you paced aimlessly: I just don’t know what to say. Maybe you struggled to know how to express your feelings, or maybe you even struggled to know what exactly it was you were feeling! Maybe you didn’t know what to pray, or how to pray, or even feel like you could pray. What are we supposed to do when we no longer have words?

Paul’s answer might surprise you. Because it’s less about what we do and more about what God does. What God is already doing. Even when all we can do is groan, God reminds us that: We never groan alone.

Romans: Living in God's Family [Romans: 09]

31m · Published 28 Apr 17:17

Romans 8:12-17 // John Daigle

We have left God, abused his grace and run after things and idols we thought would bring happiness and belonging. But while we were a long way off God ran after us, hugged us, kissed us, and welcomed us home. He has clothed us and thrown a party for us. We are no longer prodigal sons and daughters. We are no longer slaves of unrighteousness. We are welcomed home as children of God. We are back in the family with a full and rich inheritance.

God loves you. He is for you. He has gone to great lengths to rescue you. He calls you his own and has gifted you with a great inheritance. Please don’t leave here today without seeing the great love God has for you.

Romans: Alive Inside [Romans: 08]

33m · Published 21 Apr 17:37

Romans 8: 5-13 // Brooks Nesse

In order for something to truly die, it has to be cut off from its source of life. Which means we have to learn how to make room for the Spirit to access the deepest roots of our fleshly desires. We have to learn how to create space to be aware of where the Spirit is trying to access so we can keep up with him and let him in. And it’s going to take time, right? Change takes time. It takes time to kill this stuff that is deeply ingrained in us. And the Enemy is working to keep us living according to the flesh, so we have some resistance. What we have to do is discern where the Spirit is trying to work on us and rely on His presence and power in our daily, ordinary lives. The best practice for creating space for the Spirit to reach the roots of your heart is prayer. Remember, He lives in you. He speaks to you. So take time this week in prayer to ask him for guidance, to help you see what needs to be killed and where the source of life needs to be cut off.

Romans: Free for Life [Romans: 07]

36m · Published 14 Apr 17:00

Romans 8:1-5 // Paul Brandes

Planet Fitness has an interesting tagline: “Welcome to the judgement free zone.” Where else can we find that? It’s rare, isn’t it? Much more common is constant criticism. Rampant negativity. Harsh condemnation. We see and experience this, both from others, and from ourselves. The truth is, some of us are our worst critics.

And yet, in Romans 8:1, the Apostle Paul writes, “There is now NOW condemnation…” Incredible! How is this possible? Engage this passage with us to find out…

Romans: No, the Law Did Not Take Your Life [Romans: 05]

38m · Published 24 Mar 17:19

Romans 7:7-13 // Paul Brandes

One of the ironic dynamics of God’s law is that the more we know, the more we feel and recognize brokenness in our lives. With the grace of the gospel in Jesus, what value does God's law bring? Are we supposed to feel guilt and shame when we hear the law? What is God’s law for anyway if it's not very effective at restraining unrighteousness and injustice?

Join us as we continue through the book of Romans where we’ll see the role of God’s law for us today.
