26m · Published 25 Jul 23:56

This is it! The time has come to put a cork in the bottle that is and soon to be was, Brand My Podcast. It’s a sad but joyous celebratory end to 7 months of sharing my experiences, tips and conversations with others to maybe, just maybe, set you on the path to experiencing what it’s like to make your own podcast, get it off the ground and keep it rolling to achieve your goals.

But as a send-off, I’m going to take you through a round of up of the most useful tips to start your podcast with confidence. So I’m gonna cover 7 key tips, yep lucky number 7, to leave you with for your journey to creating your podcast.

I firstly want to thank the small handful of guests that came on the show to share their experiences. Secondly, I want to thank the podcast community of whom I’ve met because of this show and my endeavour to give back and help those in the podcasting space.

And lastly but not least, thank you for being here. Thank you for being present and thank you for listening. No matter if you listened to all 30 episodes or maybe just this last one. Thank you for choosing to listen to this podcast.

I hope the advice, tips, tricks, anecdotes and stories have been helpful and will prove to be useful if you start your podcast as a result of listening to this show!

EP29 - Spotify Greenroom or Clubhouse for podcasting?

24m · Published 19 Jul 02:54

At the start of the year, Clubhouse came along and everyone was frothing big time about this platform.

“I’ve got 3 invites”, “can I get an invite?” was all I saw on Instagram and LinkedIn over January, Feb and into March. The hype has since died down and a couple of other players have joined the “conversation”, with the biggest being Spotify Greenroom.

So with these two big audio platforms out there, is this a new era for podcasting?

In this episode, I cover the key differences between the two - the pro's and con's of each, along with my experiences using both to determine if using these platforms is where it's at when creating your next podcast episode.

This is also the second last episode of this show! I'm going to be finishing it up in episode 30 as my focus and direction have shifted after these 6-7 months since starting back on January 11 on my birthday. So hang around for the final episode next week!

EP28 - How to create a frictionless podcast experience

32m · Published 12 Jul 10:10

This one is mainly directed at you as the host for the experience you provide your guests on the show. But I’m going to throw in a tip at the end for you to think about your audience and one tip for you producing your show to keep you interested in what you’re doing as a podcast host.

So I’m going to pretty much dive into 10 tips (or 11…who’s counting).

But the overarching message of this episode is that the simpler you can keep it for everyone involved, to make your show happen from start to finish. You’re gonna be on track to make a sustainable show that you’re interested in making and one that your guests and listeners want to engage with.

EP27 - How to avoid being starstruck by a guest

24m · Published 05 Jul 03:41

This is a fun one, because I think all of us have one person we know of who we’d like to have on our show that we idolise but think that they’d never say yes or that you’d probably freeze or fanboy over them when they join the call or you meet them in person.

And I’ve been there, as I share a story in this episode about the time I interviewed the designer who made designed the Apple logo, Rob Janoff for my then show, Two Red Chairs (ep.5)

I don’t think anyone is expecting you to have 1000% confidence when starting out with your podcast, especially when asking people to be a guest on your show and interviewing them and they are somewhat of an idol to you.

But this episode will give you 8 loaded tips for how you might just be able to tone down your fanboy/girl moments with the guests you bring onto your podcast.

EP26 - Turning your listeners into rockstar podcast fans

14m · Published 28 Jun 07:09

Being a podcaster is similar to being a musician. At a rudimentary level, an audience is listening to their music free on Spotify. Which is the same as you listening to your favourite podcasts on Spotify for free.

But turning an audience into fans is another level of commitment in either example. Because if you want to grow as a podcaster, your need listeners and fans to tell people about you and your show. To share it with their friends and rave about you. It’s all brand building via a medium that people can connect with you on.

So in this episode, I'm running through 6 ways you can do this with experiences and touchpoints that help develop a brand for you and your podcast, to turn listeners into Superfans...while using the analogy of you being the rockstar that you are.

EP25 - Making money from podcasting

21m · Published 21 Jun 20:00

In this episode, I’m covering the ways in which you can monetise your podcast efforts for a potential financial return on investment.

I’m yet to see a meaningful return on investment from my podcasts, nor have I expected it, in terms of financial return. Because I personally see podcasting as a long-term brand building touchpoint to connect with listeners for you as a personal brand or as part of a business.

But in this episode, I cover 7 ways you can monetise your podcast that includes:

  • Have a sponsor or place ads in your episodes
  • Be an affiliate partner for commissions on sales
  • Create a course based on your podcast content
  • Paid/premium subscription model
  • Listener donations/tips
  • Hold events for listeners
  • Sell your own products/services

But what I will say is that if you do a great job in nurturing the community you’re building as a result of putting your show out there with a great amount of effort and love in return for their listenership, you may just be rewarded for that genuine effort to help others.

EP24 - Creating content for your podcast

22m · Published 14 Jun 19:00

In this episode, it’s time to talk CONTENT CREATION for your podcast.

Now full disclosure, the content I now put out there about podcasting and this podcast has dwindled a little. Because

A) it takes a lot of effort to create it consistently

B) I already create a heap of content as it is

So for you, my dear listener, if your goal is to increase your listenership due to more and more people discovering your show. Building a show and hoping people will come is 1/3 - 2/3 of the battle.

To get your show out there, we need to promote it in all the available places we can and obviously with the capacity we’re able to do so. Be it on social media, YouTube, your website, articles on Medium and more.

I also reference Gary Vee for the second time in two straight episodes - but I reference a resource him and his team put out a little while back. If you want to check it out his article, the link is below:

EP23 - How can a podcast help your business?

26m · Published 07 Jun 19:00

In this episode, I’m diving into the topic of creating a podcast for your business - either directly or indirectly.

Because as a business or as an owner, a podcast can be a great additional platform to promote the business, elevate the standing of you as the owner in your industry (maybe you want to be a thought leader) or as a way to build your brand or launch a new product or service.

Throughout the episode I take you through 5 key questions:

  1. Does your podcast need to be about what it is you do?
  2. How do you connect with clients via a podcast?
  3. Why would you want an existing client on your show?
  4. Why would you want to have a potential client on your show?
  5. How can you make a podcast achievable for a business?

For me personally, podcasting as a business owner has opened the doors to meeting new people from all around the world and creating much better relationships with those people. AND It’s even lead to creative work for my business.

But the biggest payoff for me has been the confidence in speaking which has translated not only into creating video content, but also helped the way I communicate with my clients and new connections.

EP22 - Removing the umm’s and ahh’s

14m · Published 31 May 19:00

In this episode, I’m talking about how I’m taking the initiative to remove the umm’s and ahh’s when I talk. Along with ‘Sort of’, ‘Kind of’, ‘Like’ and ‘uhhh’.

It’s tricky to do when you’re as sloppy as me with my speech. Especially as an Aussie when we use so much slang in our English dialect.

So I did a little digging on YouTube as I’m on there for most of my working days and found a few good tips from these three people below:

Allison Shapira
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QJVoZffELo

Vinh Giang
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7rgokSZ5eg

David Bunney
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sv6Fi70Aug

Do check them out as I cover them in this episode and they are going to be the tips I hope to implement as I level up this podcast over time. Which I hope will also prove to be useful for you if you have the same niggling habit of using filler words that get in the way of getting to the point and coming across as more knowledgable or a least more thoughtful.

Because at the end of the day, podcasting is all about how you communicate verbally in most instances. The more eloquent we can be, the better.
