Building Trust in Law Enforcement - Chief Jeff Hadley

28m · Published 05 Mar 18:00

How do you build trust between a law enforcement agency and the community?

With over 30 years of experience, Chief Jeff Hadley from the Chatham County Police Department, breaks down three practical ways an agency can proactively build trust within the community they serve.

It starts with setting clear expectations through public-facing documents. By providing visibility on their website into the department's SOP’s, the community is kept on the same page as the officers. This helps set the bar on what the community can expect from the agency and opens up the floor for conversations around improvements the community would like to see.

Chief Hadley then takes us through the power of positive community engagement and how to track progress. With three simple questions and a goal to knock on every door within the community, not only was the feedback helpful to policing efforts, but there was a “transfer of value between the citizen and the officer.”

Listen to the full episode to hear details on how Chief Hadley builds trust through transparency and the outcomes he has witnessed through intentional action.
