#17 - Generate Energy For Your Job Search

12m · Published 26 Jun 10:00
When you are searching for your job, your energy can be hit or miss from day to day....and that can sap productivity. One of my mentors, Brendon Burchard, always says, "The power plant doesn't have energy, it generates it".  You need to be that power plant and intentionally generate energy during your search Obstacle There are probably going to be a dozen things day in and day out that sap your energy: Being told no for a job Not being able to connect with anyone Stress hormones from financial stresses of having no paycheck Feeling like nothing is working Wondering if it is worth it. You need to know that it is worth it.  And you need to intentionally be the power plant and generate your own energy. The vibrancy you create in your life will elevate your productivity beyond anything you probably currently believe possible. HIGH PERFORMANCE PLANNER on Amazon Learn more about your ad choices. Almost always, high performers have the ability to or find a way to focus on the future and visualize how they will achieve excellence. High performers don't just know who they are - they know where they want to be and are intentional about creating clear plans to get there. 5 Things To Maximize Your Job Search

15m · Published 21 Jun 10:00
How to Maximize the Effectiveness of Your Executive Job Search1.    Do not apply to online job postings between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, and do not allocate this valuable time to researching companies on the web. Instead, use prime business hours for follow-up phone calls, networking and interviewing.  2.    Set up a separate email address for all of your job search activities, and don't check personal email between 8 AM and 5 PM. Emailing, tweeting and “Facebooking” will suck the life out of your search campaign. 3.    If you believe that your job search is a business, you should have a separate phone number for your search activity. Use your new business line for important follow-up calls and interviews. 4.    Make all follow-up calls between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. This will sometimes help you avoid “voicemail jail” during lunch hours.  5.    Be sure that every email address you have stored in your address book and/or elsewhere has been notified of your newfound mission for next generation employment. Do not send a résumé, just a very short "Hey, how ya doing?" letter; I call this "pinging." Ping the heaven out of your LinkedIn connections too! Learn more about your ad choices. 10 Tips and Tricks for LinkedIn

24m · Published 17 Jun 10:00
Success on social media can be a little tricky.  Even those who are effective and comfortable networking with people in a live setting tend to struggle engaging with people effectively online.  So I put these 10 tips and tricks together with that in mind. #1 - You do You!   The goal isn't to get everyone to love you.  That will never happen.  Be you, be authentic, and appeal to those who are naturally attracted to what you bring to the table. #2 - LinkedIn is NOT Facebook No posting of cat pictures.  The rule of thumb here is to make sure you provide some sort of value with everything you do.,  Keep it professional. #3 - Seek first to understand This is an oldie, but a goody.  One of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in Stephen Covey's book.  This is maybe the most important rule of your job search.  For some reason, even people who understand this lose sight of it when connecting with people online.  The same rule applies. #4 - Post unique content The more unique it is, the more you stand out.  The more people will share.  The more exposure you get.  Remember to use hashtags. #5 - Quality over quantity When engaging with your audience, it takes more than "likes".  Rather than giving drive-by "likes" to a dozen posts, take the time to find 2 or 3 that really mean something to you and engage.  Make a comment, leave a note, give an opinion, continue the thought...  Add value.  Show your expertise. #6 - Request recommendations Most are not aware you can do this.  Request recommendations and be specific with what you are asking for. #7 - Make sure your banner is customized It is the first thing people see and it is customizable real estate.  Take advantage of it.  Having the generic banner is lazy.  Make sure your profile pic isn't blocking valuable content. #8 - Change your "connect" button to be a "follow" button #9 - Write articles Publish publish publish.  Give your opinion.  It's a great was to build your brand online.  Few people do it.  You articles reach a higher percent of your network because it is native to LinkedIn. #10 - Send messages to people you are not connected with Send messages to people you are in groups with.  Also send to those who have a premium account with an open status. EP10: How to Bulk Up Your Brand

8m · Published 10 Jun 10:00
Questions to Ask Yourself as You Are Developing Your BrandI talk a lot about creating a passion statement.  Now you’ll use both that statement and the thinking process that developed it to shape your personal brand.  Answer the following three questions.  1. What are you selling? What are you as a multimillion-dollar “product” bringing to the table that will help you stand out to your targeted companies?  ·      Are you selling your ability to build a team? ·      To double sales? ·      To reign in costs? ·      To reorganize and/or streamline a department, division, or company? ·      To increase profits? ·      To implement new technology? ·      To open up locations or operations in new cities or countries? ·      To develop and implement new strategic plans or direction? ·      To create better communication and cooperation between divisions? ·      To improve their core business? ·      To expand into new markets? ·      To create new product lines? Remember, ultimately what you are selling is your ability to solve a company’s problems—even the problems they don’t know they have. Come up with a list of three or four “core competencies” that you have successfully demonstrated and that you enjoy using.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

EP9: The Importance of Loving Your Work

10m · Published 07 Jun 10:00
Have you been intentional about creating the career you love?  If you are in the job market, I am a huge believer that every challenge brings about new opportunities.   Have you been loving what you do for work?  Your role?  The impact you make?  Are you fulfilled with your career?  The answer for most people is a resounding NO. Your need and/or desire to find a new job is typically connected to a lack of fulfillment with your current position.  Regardless of if this transition was forced upon you or you are voluntarily seeking, your job search provides you an opportunity to align your skills and passions with adding value to an organization that will bring you more fulfillment...which will make you happier...which will have a positive impact on not only your career, but your life and family as well.
