Irene Forte is the founder of beauty label Irene Forte Skincare. A native of Italy, Forte has worked with skincare expert Francesca Ferri on the formulations, using natural ingredients from her family’s organic farm in Sicily, including prickly pear, lemon and hibiscus. Just a few years since an exclusive launch with Net-a-Porter, her products are now carried by more than 20 top retailers, including Liberty London and Nordstrom.

The arrival of a new Eurostar terminal in 2007 was a catalyst but the revitalisation of London’s King’s Cross neighbourhood was also thanks to property developer Harry Handelsman. To mark the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel’s 10th anniversary later this month, Handelsman’s Manhattan Loft Corporation will open Booking Office 1869, a revamp of the bar inside the 19th-century ticket hall. Jay Ruskey is the founder of Frinj Coffee, a company he started on his family’s Santa Barbara farm with the aim of helping to make California the next speciality coffee growing hotbed. In 2002 the farmer and agronomist planted a trial crop of coffee in hope of proving that coffee could thrive in warm, tropical climates. To date he’s helped to grow more than 3,000 mature coffee trees.

Rachel Lim is the co-founder of Love Bonito, a clothing brand launched in Singapore in 2010. Lim had to pay off a government bond to quit college so that she could start the brand, and borrowed her mother’s life savings to help bankroll the company’s early days. Love Bonito now sells in more than 10 markets, with shops in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia.

Peter Ward and Michael Geer are the co-founders of Humanity, a platform aimed at helping people to slow their rate of ageing. With the help of some leading researchers on their science advisory board, they’ve created an app that allows users to closely monitor various biomarkers to make better decisions for a healthier life. They’ve recently launched the full version of the app, following an investment from the co-founders of Skype, SoundCloud, meditation app Calm and My Fitness Pal.
