The Magic of In-Person Events

11m · Published 04 Aug 07:40

There are so many ways to connect with people and build your network.

This includes connecting virtually, remotely, with video, with text, and the list goes on.

And one of the most magical ways to connect is at in-person events.

In this episode, I share how to get the most out of in-person events without exhausting yourself. I talk about my experience attending ATOMICON on Jun 13, 2023 in Newcastle, UK.

"In-person connections have a way of creating lasting memories, imprinted on our hearts with the magic of genuine interactions." Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

NOTE: At minute 7:49 I said I met Elizabeth Gilbert but I meant to say Elizabeth Goddard. ;0

Marketing Without Realizing It With Dr. Marcia Goddard

20m · Published 18 May 12:22

When I reached out to Marcia to ask if she would be interested in talking about how she has marketed her business she wasn’t sure I was knocking on the right door.

She told me she had never really had a marketing strategy and that most of her clients had come from referrals and inconsistent posting on LinkedIn.

I replied to say that those things are actually marketing. And as it turns out, she has done many brilliant things to grow her business. She just wasn’t thinking about them as marketing.

You will LOVE listening to this podcast where she shares her journey of starting her business and which marketing actions have worked well for her.

So if you’re a ‘hesitant marketer’ you will surely be inspired by Marcia’s story and also gain practical advice you can use in your own business.

Dr. Marcia Goddard is a neuroscientist on a mission. She is an award-winning science communicator and experienced keynote speaker, able to bridge the gap between science and business. She speaks on a range of topics, but always with a ‘brainy twist’: neuroscience is the foundation of everything she does. Her mission is to break stereotypes: science is everywhere, and it doesn’t have to be boring!

How to Use Guest Podcasting a Marketing Strategy with Lisa Simone Richards

20m · Published 17 Jun 07:55

The key to a successful business is consistently connecting with your ideal clients.

There are many ways to do this. Some take more time, some take more money, and some take more energy.

And there is one marketing strategy that takes the least amount of time, money, and energy to get in front of the right people - that is being a guest on someone’s podcast.

But how does it work? Where do you find these podcasts and how do you get yourself booked on them?

Lisa Simone Richards is an expert on this topic and in this episode of my podcast, she shares everything you need to know about how to get booked on your first (or next) podcast.

Including how to deal with rejection, because not everyone will say yes and that is totally normal.

We also discuss the compound effect visibility can have for your business which can translate into people approaching you to speak or be a podcast guest.

And Lisa also shares what she finds most meaningful about her work.

She even has a free template you can use (it’s the same one she uses herself). See link below.

Oh yeah, and Ginger makes a surprise cameo appearance.

Download her free Perfect Podcast Pitch Template, which will help you write a pitch that gets you featured on podcasts.

And here’s a bit more about Lisa and her work.

Lisa Simone Richards is a PR & Visibility Strategist for online coaches who want to get seen everywhere.

Through her free workshops, masterclasses and mentorship program, she gives you the insider secrets on how to get exposure and reach more people without spinning your wheels on social media or wasting money on Facebook ads.

On weekends you can find her playing in the kitchen with her husband, petting ALL the dogs in the park, and watching way too many fashion styling videos on YouTube.

Creating Meaningful Relationships in Business with Dr. Bayo Akomolafe

22m · Published 06 May 07:56

Dr. Bayo Akomolafe was one of the speakers at The House of Beautiful Business Conference last year and the wisdom he shared cracked open my mind and my heart.

To my absolute delight, Bayo agreed to have a conversation with me on my podcast and talk about business and marketing.

We discussed trust and the gift mentality, reaching out to people, having a big vision (or perhaps a vision having you), imagination, failing generously, and play.

He also talked about being in awe, to stand in awe of the things that exceed us. And he mentioned this quote.

“The purpose of life is to be defeated by greater and greater things.” Rainer Maria Rilke

Bayo Akomolafe (Ph.D.), rooted with the Yoruba people in a more-than-human world, is the father to Alethea and Kyah, the grateful life partner to Ije, son and brother. A widely celebrated international speaker, posthumanist thinker, poet, teacher, public intellectual, essayist, and author of two books, These Wilds Beyond our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity’s Search for Home (North Atlantic Books) and We Will Tell our Own Story: The Lions of Africa Speak, Bayo Akomolafe is the Visionary Founder of The Emergence Network and host of the online post activist course, ‘We Will dance with Mountains’.

“Falling might very well be flying – without the tyranny of coordinates.” Dr. Bayo Akomolafe

Being of Service as a Marketing Strategy with Eldridge Labijno

20m · Published 15 Apr 07:53

For a self-proclaimed ‘non-marketer’ Eldridge Labijno shares so many essential ideas about how to market your business.

We cover making organic connections with people, the power of referrals, the importance of knowing your short introduction inside and out, how having a niche helps you, valuing your services at the right price, solving problems for people, and being of service.

And finally, he shares what he loves most about being a Meaningpreneur.

Eldridge talked about always giving value to people you connect with. Be prepared to solve a problem. He defines a problem as, “an undesired state.”

This is the three-part framework he mentioned to ask to discover the problem:

1. What do you have that you don’t want?

2. What do you not have that you do want?

3. What do you have that you want more of?

The author Eldridge mentioned is David Graeber and the books he mentioned are: Bullshit Jobs and Debt: The First 5000 Years.

You can find out more about Eldridge on his website here and connect with him on LinkedIn here.

“Nobody can do what you do. Because nobody is you.” Eldridge Labijno

After a successful international career as a neoclassical ballet dancer, Eldridge retrained for ten years to become a theatre director and Master Coach of Strategic Interventions.

Based in the Netherlands he works around Europe giving workshops for startup accelerators, Universities, cultural institutions, and businesses.
