One Badass (Working) Mother

by Catherine Ferguson

One Badass (Working) Mother is a podcast that explores the relationship between work and motherhood. I'm Catherine Ferguson and I'm a life and career coach for moms who want to rediscover their passions, redefine what they want out of their work and reinvent their careers and themselves. In this podcast, I talk to REAL moms who have done just that. They've launched businesses, turned passion-projects into full-time gigs, switched industries, all while raising children and having babies. The point is this: work and motherhood looks different for everyone. There is not one "right" way to do it.

Ep. #15: Patriarchy Stress Disorder, with Dr. Valerie Rein

49m · Published 22 Dec 10:00

I interviewed Dr. Valerie Rein, who’s the author of the bestselling book “Patriarchy Stress Disorder: The Invisible Barrier to Women’s Happiness and Fulfillment.” If you’ve ever wondered why you feel dissatisfied, even if you’ve achieved a lot or have everything that “should” make you happy, you'll gain a lot from this episode. Dr. Valerie explains Patriarchy Stress Disorder - or PSD for short - and why it keeps us on a constant treadmill of achievement, despite the paradox of those achievements never really bringing us true and lasting fulfillment.

Sarah is a brand strategist, photographer, and a mom of two living in Brooklyn, NY.  We talk about her own career and and motherhood journey and how it's evolved over the years following the birth of her children and the pandemic. We discuss how working as a mother has been devalued over the years and how that can be a sticky place for many women who want to work and also spend time with their kids. Finally, we address how to think about the “new normal” - what does life look like after the pandemic and how can we conscientiously decide what kind of life and work we want to create.

Ep. #12: You Are Not a Democracy

7m · Published 02 Nov 15:14

While we all hope for a healthy democracy for the collective good of our country....YOU are not a democracy.

You are the only one who has the ultimate power to make decisions about your life. But many of us place more weight into the thoughts and beliefs of other people, or companies, or societal expectations than we do our own.
