Re-release KLAUS (w/Tim Rasmussen)

50m · Published 19 Dec 13:00

Ever wonder what the connection between an Academy Award-nominated Holiday movie and PeacePlayers’ core values is? Us too! That’s why we’ve brought back the host of the PopViolence Podcast, Tim Rasmussen, to discuss the critically acclaimed 2019 animated film, Klaus. In today’s holiday, bonus episode of Play It Forward, a social justice podcast presented by PeacePlayers, you’ll hear Chinny, Emmett, and Tim discuss the animation style, the stereotypes of Christmas and Holiday movies, whether or not Tim thinks the Nightmare Before Christmas is a Christmas movie AND the systems of violence and oppression that exist within our societies, even during the holiday season. This is a great, light conversation for anyone who enjoys a holiday movie, and also enjoys thinking more critically about the media we consume over the holidays.

Be sure to follow and listen to Tim’s podcast, PopViolence: movie/film reviews that interlace critical perspectives about violence, justice, conflict, and peace! Follow it on Instagram @pop.violence

Love & Basketball (w/Evan Unrau & Seb Kimyacioglu, OLY)

56m · Published 11 Aug 12:00

In today’s episode of the social justice podcast Play It Forward presented by PeacePlayers,  power couple Evan Unrau and Seb Kimyacioglu share their personal journeys from playing collegiate basketball to falling in love. Seb Kimyacioglu is a former professional basketball player having won trophies with Galatasaray in Turkey, represented Turkey at the Rio Olympics, and now works for the FOX corporation! Evan, also a former professional basketball player, went down the coaching route and shares with us some of those experiences that led her to her current role as director of PeacePlayers Los Angeles. We ultimately arrive at how their two journeys were interconnected and led them both to be confident and comfortable with who they are, which allows them to be their fullest selves in their relationship with each other, their peers, and the people they engage with. AND we also get to hear who they think would win in a one-on-one match-up. As Chinny says at the top of the episode, we were originally hoping to share this during Pride month in June, BUT let’s make EVERY month PRIDE MONTH!

Athletes Soul (w/Myriam Glez)

1h 10m · Published 11 Jul 16:00

Myriam Glez is a former synchronized swimmer who competed in the Olympics for both France and Australia. She didn’t peek there, she’s on Play It Forward presented by PeacePlayers, now! The social justice podcast is hyped to continue its long swimming tradition of having Olympians join to discuss their personal journeys and transitions from competitive sport to everyday life. Myriam shares with our hosts her experiences in synchronized swimming both in and out of the pool, the lack of diversity in synchronized swimming, the athlete's journey, and how that journey can often contribute to a crisis of identity when transitioning out of the sport. You’ll also hear one of our more heated Lightning Rounds, where Myriam tells us precisely what she thinks of the question, “Art Museums or History Museums!”

Visit Athletes Soul for more information on the work Myriam does!
