Be careful learning lessons from other people

8m · Published 21 Dec 11:38
Often we like to learn from other people, particularly those that are top #performers in the field. However, we often have to realize that their experiences are not representative of what you were going through. You often don’t understand many different factors that lead to them becoming top performers. We need to take a step back and understand that your experiences are often unique to ourselves. If you were able to understand everybody’s abilities in endowments, you’d probably have a really good sense of how you’ve can #compare to others. The problem is that we never have that information unless we often almost always have a poor #representation of the world and how we actually compare to others. The lessons that you are likely to glean from top performers are often incorrect or at least not applicable. Instead, a better way to approach the world is to figure out what makes you you, and make that better. Be a better version of you, not somebody that you think is a top performer.

The Power of Courageous Leadership: Making Difficult Decisions and Facing Critics

8m · Published 20 Dec 12:05
When you take bold actions that make a difference in the world, it's natural for people to criticize and question your choices. It's important to remember that not everyone will agree with you, and that's okay. What's important is that you have the #courage to do what you believe is right, even if it means facing criticism and judgment from others. Courage is not always easy, but it requires you to stay true to your values and who you are as a person. Don't let the opinions of others hold you back from being the best version of yourself and making a positive impact. You be YOU.

Uncovering the Reasons Why People Limit Their Potential

6m · Published 17 Dec 14:13
One thing that can be frustrating is seeing people not living up to their full potential. It can be hard to watch someone with so much potential not pursue their dreams or reach their goals. In this podcast, I explore some of the common reasons why people limit their own potential and offer practical tips and strategies for overcoming those limitations. Whether you're struggling with self-doubt, fear of failure, or something else, we'll give you the tools and motivation you need to reach your full potential and live the life you want. Another thing that can be disheartening is realizing that many people are content to stay where they are, rather than striving to reach their full potential. It's understandable to have moments of self-doubt or fear of failure, but it's important not to let those feelings hold us back.

You can’t teach people that don’t want to learn.

12m · Published 16 Dec 19:56
As #business #professor, despite having my own personal motivation, and all of the knowledge in the world, I come to the conclusion that you can’t teach people that do not want to learn. The only thing that you could do is come to terms with you sharing your insights, and then perhaps one day the information will sink in if others choose to learn. It’s a hard lesson for me to learn, as I tend to view myself as very conscientious. I have to relearn every semester. However, if people are unwilling to learn themselves, there’s nothing you can do about it. You have to take a step back and simply say you’re doing your best. It’s up to others to actually want to learn if they choose to. When they choose to learn, things change. You no longer have to motivate, teach, or incentivize, but simply explore together.

negativity is never about you

7m · Published 16 Dec 11:27
If you’re trying to be a good person, and you’re working towards helping other people, if you experience #negativity from others, it’s not about you. It never is. One of the more challenging things that I have had to deal with, by being in the public domain is realizing that many people are #anxious, and quick to get angry. I’ve learned that even if you try to be kind and generous that people will get upset with you. Social platforms promote negativity because they get clicks and views. Reflect on the people that we should all admire most, people like Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa and the like, were all #persecuted and rejected. Even if these people that were very much doing good in this world were persecuted, but imagine us simple folks doing simpler things. You should expect negativity. Us humans have never been good at dealing with our own emotions. we are better than we used to be, but we still have a lot of fear and anxiety to process. Negativity is often never about you. if you’re trying to be a good person, and you’re working towards helping other people, if you experience negativity from others, it’s not about you. Keep being kind and generous. It’s a long-term play.

Just be happy with who you are

Getting you a job is not the role of a professor

8m · Published 14 Dec 12:02
My role as a #Business #Professor is not to get you a job. This is a trivial problem. A professor‘s role is to get you to think about the world differently so that you will go and understand the career that you actually want or create. We’re here to get you to think about things in different ways. If you want a job, I suggest you just start throwing your résumé in to different restaurants and grocery stores in your local area. If you want a job that you love, I would suggest that you go get a business school #education. We can’t guarantee that you will find a job that you’ll love, but will likely guarantee that you’ll understand the world in a much more nuanced way than you did previously. It’s your role after that, to figure out how to apply this understanding in such a way that you can translate it into a job that you love and will cherish. Finding a career you love is a hard thing to figure out. You’re not only need to know what you like, and most of us don’t, you need to understand what the world has to offer. The combined intersection where you understand your skills with what the world actually can offer is where you will actually discover some thing remarkable.

what is (real) new-product development and innovation actually about?

6m · Published 13 Dec 16:20
People believe that new product development and #innovation is about flashy things that are novel and that will blow your mind. This is flat out wrong. Instead, new product development and innovation is a slow, #painful journey towards a little bit of improvement every day. Nobody will pay attention to it, and you will get absolutely no #recognition until one day something clicks. Call it a tipping point or the formation of community, but it doesn’t matter. The effects are still the same. When that day happens, usually very long into the process people start paying attention to what you’re actually doing. Until that day, you’re a nobody, doing wasteful, and unproductive things. The psychological struggles of being an innovator or entrepreneur that is creating new products is very real.

We do we continue to make the same mistakes as a society?

5m · Published 13 Dec 13:03
Why do we continue to make the same mistakes as a society or with an organization? I believe that individual traits play a large role, and make it so it’s difficult for some individuals and groups to learn effectively. One would think that we would adapt to an environment, and become increasingly improved human beings, but I don’t think that’s actually the case. Individual factors due to genetics and social upbringing play a significant role I believe.
