Why Great Guitar Teachers Are Rare

33m · Published 20 Jan 00:00

For a free copy of the ebook 'The Essential Guide To Teaching Guitar' visit http://bit.ly/GuitarTeacherWanted In this podcast I go through my top 5 reasons why I believe great guitar teachers are rare. Great teaching is a skill that can be mastered but most never reach a level of mastery. I don't claim to be a master by the way and never will. I will always view myself as a student but I do recognise mastery in others and I do strive for it. Having studied the topic of teaching, coaching, leadership etc for almost three decades has given me an acute awareness of what defines great teaching. No one knows it all and there are many different strengths a great teacher could possess but, the five reasons I discuss seem to be present with most great teachers I have come across.

Communicating effectively with your students

For a free copy of the ebook 'The Essential Guide To Teaching Guitar visit http://bit.ly/GuitarTeacherWanted I received the following comment from one student in response to their G4 teacher (no names) and I just want to give you my thoughts. "The teacher did not listen to what I wanted out of the lessons nor tailor to my needs as a student, I think this is imperative for a teacher of anything."

Guitar Teaching Success - Why building student confidence is the key

27m · Published 07 Jan 00:00

Free ebook. http://bit.ly/GuitarTeacherWanted A good student seemingly out of nowhere, announces they will no longer be attending your lessons. When you enquire as to why they reply, “Money is a bit tight at the moment” or “I have a lot going on and don’t have the time right now”. Another student is not practicing. You ask them 'what’s wrong' and they reply, “My schedule is quite busy and it’s difficult to find the time to practice”. What's going on here?

The right way to get student referrals

29m · Published 17 Dec 00:00

For a free copy of the ebook 'The Essential Guide To Teaching Guitar' visit http://bit.ly/GuitarTeacherWanted This can be a tricky subject. Simon Sinek author of the book ‘Start With Why’ goes into great detail about manipulations. A manipulation is anything you do to sell a service or product that is not actually associated with your why or reason for being in business. In other words we are selling the dream of playing guitar. Our offering is a structured method for learning guitar that will help people achieve that dream efficiently. Nothing more, nothing less. If what we offer matches what we deliver (consistency) people are happy and word will naturally spread through the community. The reason word spreads is because consistency is actually very rare and anything rare becomes valuable and generally talked about.

3 Big Problems with chasing a Page 1 Google Ranking

33m · Published 12 Nov 00:00

Being on Page 1 of Google for many guitar teachers seems to be an attractive goal. We think it will automatically lead to lots of student inquiries. Page 1 of Google in some businesses is hugely valuable but in most businesses it's seriously over valued. The tragedy is that many guitar teachers put hundreds of hours into learning and understanding SEO and eventually get to page one only to find they still aren't getting many inquiries. The problem is they didn't research the numbers.
