Sustainably Human at Work

by Liz Wiltsie

Becoming sustainably human at work isn't a small undertaking. It often means letting go of systems and behaviors that don't serve us individually or collectively. So what do we do? As individuals, as groups of folks, as leaders? How do we carve out space for our humanity while making sure we're not the only ones? How do we thrive in the workplace while not imagining we must be superhuman? How do we cultivate spaces that are generative and healing, creative and extraordinary? I don't have the answers to those questions. And, to be fair, I don't believe one human can EVER have all the answers to those questions. I'm working through those questions every day. This podcast curates for you a set of folks with an opinion worth listening to and sharing. So join me as I ask people I admire to share their wisdom with you in accessible doses. Join me on my quest to become sustainably human at work.

Notes on a Name Change

43s · Published 20 Jan 16:36

If you've been with me for longer than a minute, or you're just coming to this podcast, you'll notice that it has a couple of different shapes to it. And it's actually even had a couple of different names. What is interesting is that the content remains. And when I go back and look at my original episodes, the content is still about being sustainably human at work long before I knew that was the wording we were after.

You'll see some of the episodes have a little bit different questions. There was a time this podcast is called Lead the Podcast.  There's a time it was called What's Leadership. And today it is called Sustainably Human at Work. I tell you all of this, just so you don't think you're in the wrong place, but roll with me as we continue to evolve.

This is Sustainably Human at Work. I'm Liz Wiltsie and join me.

Welcome to Sustainably Human at Work

1m · Published 20 Jan 16:35

Welcome to the quest to become Sustainably Human at Work. I'm Liz Wiltsie and I will be your curator. Becoming sustainably human is tricky in today's workplace. There's so much pressure to be superhuman. And I'm not here for it. And my guess is if you've managed to make your way here, you're maybe not here for it either.

So, what I've done is curated a set of folks that I admire to talk about some piece of their work that can help people become more sustainably human in the workplace.

People ask me all the time, what do you mean sustainably human? Like, of course, we're human and I'm going to keep being human until I die. And really at the end of the day, sustainably human is about leaving work with energy. It's about having relationships in the workplace that don't make our lives worse.

It's about being able to have meaningful conversations, even when they're difficult. It's about being able to grow as people. It's about not sacrificing half of our waking hours, because someone's decided we need to be perfect in the workplace. It's about leaving perfection behind and finding a way to live our lives.

So I invite you to join me on this quest. Because I've got some fantastic folks who are able to weigh in and share some of their work with you. So here we go.
