#65. Robyn Koenig - Getting Out of Your Own Way

1h 0m · Published 10 Mar 17:57

“ Pivots are power steps towards your dreams “

Robyn Koenig ( @rarefind_love ) would seem to be tumbling through life without aim. With experiences in fashion, business executive, podcaster, coaching and the nonprofit world. But if you look closely and get to know her, you see no matter what her profession was, her focus never truly changed.

We dive right in on this one and confront some of peoples major “trip ups” in life. Fear, judgment and lack of confidence can cause people to make decisions or focus on things that wont get them closer to what they really want. In fact a lot of times we’ve forgotten what the things we really want are and that's why Robyn highly recommends we often revisit the things that make us happy and bring us joy in life.

One of the subtle things we talk about is paying attention to how you show up to situations and tasks. Do they make you anxious, angry or  happy. If they cause negative emotions and energy learning to recognize it, and then develop tools to snap you out of could dramatically impact your life.

She sees O.S.M.s ( Oh shit moments ) as opportunities, they tend to be loaded with large amounts of action. She also reminds us its okay to make room to be angry because it's real and we can use it to get moving, but you cant get stuck in anger.

Robyn is a wonderful coach with many tools and mechanisms to help you get out of your own way and move towards the things you want in life. Besure to use the links and tools below to connect with here.

#64. Anna Zambreny - Connecting with Your True Higher Self

1h 1m · Published 27 Feb 16:29

“ I didn't always know if I was choosing something based off fear or ego, or based on what I wanted deep down in my soul “

Anna Zambreny ( @annasintuitive ) noticed that people were reaching physical and fitness goals they had but still weren't that happy. This is what drove her to find ways to incorporate spiritual/self love practices into her personal training so others can feel the true happiness they are looking for.

Since this discovery she has really shifted the way she not only handles adversity but how she communicates the experiences. “ talking more openly about experiences without shame to open the doors for others “ is how she explains her willingness to be  vulnerable . That's why she shares her story on her blog and podcast, in hopes that she can give you a better chance of connecting with your higher self and becoming aligned spiritually, physically and mentally.

We learn many things during our conversation. How a lot of anxiety is triggered by overindulgence and inflammation of the body. Sometimes anxiety isn't even our own, it can belong to the people around us or the environment we are in.

There are so many other things in this episode so I hope you’ve listened to the whole thing. Anna even surprises Kevin with a Tarot reading, a first for our podcast host.

#63. Amanda Alexander - Business is a Story and You Get to Decide How to Get to the Destination

47m · Published 25 Feb 15:45

“ The world won’t end if you don’t achieve at the first thing you thought you wanted to do “

Amanda Alexander has found an unique way to use the principles and skills she learned in creative writing and apply them beyond the scope of pen and paper. “ business is the same way. Its about a story you're trying to tell and there's many ways to get there. I really love the logistics of that “ She later tells us how much she enjoys business for all the personalities and backgrounds coming together to solve problems.

Growing up with her father owning hardware stores, she has always been shown there is another way than the traditional 9 to 5 and its okay to carve your own path. Now she helps developing business leaders with the Orr Fellowship program.  Where people go through a vigorous 2 year post grad program. They help you become the leader you want to be while keeping the local community and businesses in mind.

It is here that she was able to start the Overdressed and UnderQualified podcast in partnership with the program where she now works to make a stand alone production. Still paying homage to its ties to Orr Fellowship but creating its own voice, personality and culture. At OU they interview top business leaders to reveal the things they learned in the beginning of their careers.

Amanda took the time to share some of the lessons she's learned along the way so far:

  • Do it before you think you should
  • Prioritize what needs to be done but don't pressure yourself too much if it doesn't all get completed
  • Make sure everyone is heard but make the choices that are best for the company and team
  • Go for what you want but remember what you want isn't always where you need to be

49m · Published 20 Feb 19:15

“ I’ve been a sayer all my life. Rumbl has helped me become a doer “

Carson Ashley ( @nosracmusic ) Comes to us from the west coast of the USA but his story didn't not start there. He grew up in the much more conservatice environment of Indiana. His girlfriend was the one who gave them the push to test their comfort zone and move across the country.

Online he is more well known as Nosrac Music which is Carson spelled backwards, a name he came up with playing Star Wars that just seemed to stick in the online world.

As his name would elude, Carson is a musician, he entertains his fans playing his guitar but he got his first big taste of success building short skits and comedy on the app called Rumbl, which is now called Rizzle. He captured 2nd place during the Brooklyn 99 competition and now goes back and forth taking on more camediac adventures and playing music.

He did always start off being as confident as he seems on social. He grew up with difficulties speaking and went through speaking classes. His speaking teacher was one of the first people to push him to take a chance on whatever he wanted to be.

Carson encourages others when building their own brand or audience that “ no one is really paying attention, they are going to go home and lay in bed thinking about their own drama “ He says to grow big you have to engage and have fun. Actually become friends with people. He also lets us know that if you are trying to really grow big it takes alot fo work. “ a 60 second skit can take up to an hour of research and practice “

Troy Holt ( @troy_talks ) has spent 20 years developing a craft. He makes it appoint to think outside of the box and make a lasting impression.

He would pass out two cards and tell people “don't keep me a secret” a standard way to stand out and think outside the box.

The real secret sauce, Troy cares about the people he meets. He puts them first, takes the time to build a lasting relationship with. He pays attention to birthdays, anniversaries, and even the harder things like the loss of a loved one. Its part of his Two C's approach. Celebration and Consolation.

#60. Chad Bourquin - The Power of Finding Your Inner Rock Star

47m · Published 17 Feb 10:21

“Its important to be able to narrow your vision down to one sentence “

Chad Bourquin ( @chadbourquin  @bigtimegrainco ) pushed because he found what he loved and wasn't going to let the people who told him it would never work win.

During an unlikely event, a high school assembly, Chad first encountered his passion. A friend urged him to learn guitar after the performance at the assembly so they could  start their own band. Even though the path has changed many time, he always kept his love for music in mind

When you look at where Chad is now its easy to assume the path was success after success after success. But behind every skill and talent comes a story or discomfort and forced learning. Chad did learn to play guitar to be in that highschool band. They all practiced 2 songs for 6 months and after all that work, his friend whose idea it was to start the band together, replaced him and  started with another group because Chad wasn't that good yet.” There were even times when his own father discouraged him from pursuing music and suggested building a backup plan

“ Its important to understand the difference between a back up plan and a supporting plan” Chad tells us “ a supporting plan is something you do in the interim that helps you get to your bug goal or dream as to where a back up plan is something you do out of fear “ He credits some of his greatest lessons and moments of supporting skill development from some of his “ supporting plans “

We cover so much in this episode like the great work Chad and his brother Bret with  the Big Time Grain Company, their band and project to help others discover their own inner rock star. The Dream Big Series and we only touch on how they played for a crowd of 800,000 people in Kansas City after the Royals won the World Series.

Be sure to listen to the whole podcast for all the details of this great story.

#59. Adam Sinkus - Creating Culture by developing Leaders, its the ACES Way

53m · Published 12 Feb 15:38

“ Love what you’re doing, by doing what you love “

Adam Sinkus ( @adamsinkus ) is a leadership and culture guru. He works with businesses to drive real change and increasing profits along the way.

Adam like most of us would go to work everyday, seeing many things wrong with how people were managed, trained and worst yet, how people felt about being at work. Instead of spending everyday dreading having to come back he decided to do something about it.

Being a lifetime student of leaders and business information he realized the missing piece at most companies was culture and leadership training. He explains to us how normally the guy with the best metrics gets promoted but more often than not they lack the leadership skills to drive results with his or her team. This causes them to become the “ dictator behind the desk “

He decided to take the best of what he’s learned and package into a digestible formula he calls ACES leadership and helps train other companies on how to not only groom their leaders but then teach those leaders how to shape the culture of the business.

What is ACES ?

A: cknowledgement -

C: ultivating, training and up skilling those who want to grow

E: mpower your team

S: trengthen and learn from/celebrate successes

How do you do that? Well you’ll have ask him directly

One thing that he really contributes to his success that comes up many times during our talk is niching down, starting small and being patient.

Be sure to connect with Adam using the links below and watch for his book to drop where you can get his step by step process to change your own business.

#58. Michael Rocharde - Driving Increased Efficiency With Keeping the User in Mind

53m · Published 06 Feb 18:25

“ those who say something can't be done are usually the ones who don't want to do it “

Michael Rocharde has spent a large part of his life traveling the world, on thing that has always remained the same is his desire to create better solutions for people and business.

In 1987 Michael found himself visiting home in England to help his mother with the passing of his father. While there a friend reached out hope  Mike could help build a database for his business. During this time is when Mike decided that File Maker and database solution software/tools would be the focus of his professional life.

Mike learned chess from a young age from his father, it taught him how to strategize, think on his toes, how to play offense and defense. It seems that those experiences have helped mold the vision he currently has for NautilusFM. “ spreadsheets are terrible for a business, you have this information and a different spreadsheet for a different set of information and none of talk to one another. “ With nautilus, you have a single screen so you never have to leave “ homebase” and keep it easy to not get lost behind the never ending flood of windows being open. The best thing is he even made it open source so people have the ability to build upon and improve his framework to meet their own needs. In short Nautilus condenses the time it would take to make database software.

Its amazing how many experiences Mike has been able to have, working with some many different companies and industries while traveling the world. He drives results by focusing on user experience while increasing operational efficiency to increase profits.
