11. Mark Normand

38m · Published 25 Aug 15:00

Mark Normand is an American comic based in New York. His most recent special 'Out to Lunch'  has over 7 million views on youtube and as a result Netflix couldn’t ignore his talent and popularity so now Mark has a Netflix special coming out later this year.

Mark tours the world doing headline shows and  has done 12 late night TV appearances and has  appeared on the Joe Rogan Podcast on multiple occasions.

Jerry Seinfeld - who is the star of this podcast but just doesn't know it yet - labelled Mark the best up and coming comic there is.

I talked to Mark about  how the Netflix deal came about, why he initially turned it down and the awkwardness of talking to the company having bagged them out publicly for years.

We then move on to his relationship with Jerry. He opened for Jerry while he performed theatre shows in New York and  he shares stories of the awkward  text exchanges he has shared with the comedy legend.

We finish with ideas on how to convince Jerry to come on this thing and what he would think if he heard this podcast exists.

BONUS - The man who convinced Jerry Seinfeld to star in an ad for a small Australian company (John Dwyer)

18m · Published 26 Apr 02:00

How did he do it?

John Dwyer was a marketing consultant for Australian financial institution the Greater Building Society in 2009 when he somehow convinced Jerry to star in their latest ad.

The company was based in Australia's seventh largest city, Newcastle, home to just over three hundred thousand people.

'JD' as Jerry called him had to get creative in order to convince Jerry to star in the commercial as he rejects thousands of companies  every year.

Given JD achieved what I am striving for here Ion the podcast, I had to track him down and find out exactly how he did it.

Enjoy!
