How A Men's Basketball Program is Helping Redefine Masculinity

28m · Published 19 Oct 16:07

Huge thanks to Kip Ioane, head coach of the Willamette Men's Basketball program, for taking time to chat with New Leader Workshop.

Kip is putting massive action into reshaping how college athletes view the concept of masculinity. After a series of harmful incidents on campus at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, Kip felt lucky that his players weren't involved. But he didn't want to stop there. He decided that he wanted to do more to ensure that his players understood what it meant to be stand up citizens in the community.

On today's episode Kip talks about his Leader's of Men program and why it is an important tool for university sport's programs to be aware of.

Building Up Your Community with Alex Casebeer and Conrad Venti

34m · Published 05 May 15:53

A rising tide raises all ships.

This is the truth and a big reason it is so important for all business owners to learn how to contribute and build up the community around them. This conversation was inspired by a challenged from Dick Withnell at a YMCA event in Salem, Oregon. At the event he challenged the audience to think about who would be the next generation of community leaders.

Two people that immediately came to mind for me were Conrad Venti and Alex Casebeer.

We were able to chat on a Zoom call last week. Enjoy hearing about

2020 Business Myths with Kyle Sexton and Tom Hoffert

58m · Published 14 Apr 04:20

Last week I had the opportunity to talk with Kyle Sexton and Tom Hoffert about myths circulating throughout our business community.

Those familiar with the podcast have heard Tom on previous episodes. He's CEO of Salem Chamber of Commerce and previously worked as Sales Manager for Don Pancho Authentic Mexican Foods.

Kyle is a thought leader in the business community and regularly speaks around the country as well as internationally.

Three myths we discuss:

1. Now is not the time to be pursuing new clients 2. For a business to succeed, they need to reinvent the way they do business completely 3. To survive, we need to offer drastic discounts

I'd love to hear your biggest takeaway from the episode.

Confessions of an Introvert

20m · Published 03 Mar 07:07

I’m excited to partner with my brilliant and talented friend, Loree Sanchez, every week to provide you content that will help you be a better teammate, peer, and overall influencer.

Today we discuss differences between Extroverts and Introverts, including how we can best partner together.

The Jung-Myers theory describes two kinds of mental processes: aking in or gathering information and making decisions and coming to conclusions about that information.

Everyone has a preferred way of using these mental processes.

People who prefer INTROVERSION  focus in-depth on a few interests, learn best by reflection, mental “practice,” and take the initiative selectively—when the situation or issue is critical to them.

People with a preference for INTROVERSION reflect more, be quieter, keep enthusiasm inside, reflect before responding to questions, wait for space, be more contained, and harder to read.

I’m hoping you could send me a DM on Instagram with your biggest takeaway from today’s episode. What actions will you take to help you better connect with your Extroverted/Introverted friends?

How I Used Twitter to Meet Macklemore and Help Fund a Health Care Facility

6m · Published 27 Feb 07:24

There has never been a better time to shoot your shot. You have nothing to lose. I don't mean that you should be obnoxious and spam people. What I do mean is look for opportunities to get connected with influential people and make big things happen for your community, business, and career.

In this episode, I share two stories about how I made a couple of really exciting things happen in Salem based on my willingness to throw a hail mary on Twitter.

Enjoy!
