Lest We Forget. Lieutenant-Colonel Bruno Plourde was born in Lévis, Quebec. He join the Army Reserve with the Régiment de la Chaudière in 1980 as an infantryman and commissioned in 1983. During his service, he represented Canada at the NATO Military Pentathlon Competition of the Allied Confederacy of Officers of the Reserve (CIOR). He successively deployed in CFB Goose Bay Protection Company as part of the OP UNIQUE, in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2001 as SFOR Senior Regional Liaison and Disarmament Officer with the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 2004 Chief of Staff - Sector 2 in Kisangani to the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) and 2008/2009 as in the dual role of NATO Regional Command (South) Liaison Officer with the Afghanistan National Security Forces and Deputy commander of the Regional Police Advisory Command -South (OP ENDURING FREEDOM). When not deployed, he served, on full time service, in various junior and senior staff officer appointments, mainly in operations, planning and institutional transformation in Brigade and Divisional Headquarters from 1989 to 2017. Lieutenant-Colonel Plourde commanded the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada from November 2009 to May 2013 and the 2nd Canadian Rangers Patrol Group from December 2013 to March 2017. He came back to the Black Watch for a second assignment in September 2017. Doug Mow is a 30 year veteran of the tech industry, spanning enterprise software, telecommunications, Internet services, cloud technologies, and professional services. Starting his career in sales and sales management, he has held executive positions in corporate strategy, marketing, partner and channel management, and product management. He is currently a consultant and the acting CEO of a leadership development start up.

Most recently, Mow was Chief Marketing Officer for QuEST Global Services, a $750 million global engineering services company with over 12,000 employees. Prior to QuEST, he held the position of CMO and Sr. VP of Corporate Strategy for Ness Software Engineering Services, a $200 million global professional services organization. Earlier in his career, he was VP of Product Marketing and Strategy at Qwest Communications in Denver, CO.

During his career he has helped organizations achieve maximum corporate valuation through extensive branding and awareness campaigns, and effective demand generation activities to grow revenue. He has recently participated in a number of corporate liquidity transactions that improved shareholder returns by 2X to 3X.

Mow holds a BS in Economics from Cornell University with a concentration in Business Management and Marketing.

In this episode, you’ll hear from Justine McIntyre. She was elected to Montreal City Council November 2013, and served until 2017. In 2015, she became leader of the political party Vrai changement pour Montréal. The party had been founded by Mélanie Joly, who is currently the Federal Minister of Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie in Justin Trudeau’s government. 

Justine began her career as a classical musician. After graduating from McGill University in1998 with a bachelor’s in Music, specializing in Piano performance, she went on to perform in and produce numerous concerts and solo recitals, and worked as an accompanist and choral conductor. 

Currently, Justine is completing a DESS in the Management - Sustainable Development program at HEC Montréal, while working in public relations in the field of sustainable mobility. She is a member of the board of Climatable, an NGO focused on climate change literacy. And works with the Last Post Fund, a charity whose mission is to ensure that "no Veteran is denied a dignified funeral and burial, as well as a military gravestone, due to insufficient funds at time of death."

In this episode, I got to interview someone who I know extremely well and my first leadership role model – it’s my father – Jeff Smith. He is someone that has been able to accomplish a lot when it comes to leadership. He is currently the manager for the McGill University Health Center (or MUHC) medical records department for all sites in Montreal (pediatrics and adult sites). In addition, he has been the Quebec Provincial Commissioner for Scouts Canada, a 4 time Deputy National Commissioner for Scouts Canada and has received the Queen's Jubilee and Queen’s Diamond Jubilee awards, just to name a few. He has created and led multiple leadership training courses over the last 30 years and has led complex initiatives in the government sector. Also, he has chaired a number of national and international events through scouting and met with world leaders and European royalty. In this podcast, we discuss his leadership journey, his philosophy on creating a great team and his leadership heroes. At the end of the podcast I asked him a series of questions, questions I ask during a learning session with potential mentors.
