To My Progeny (I'm Sorry)

In a long distance online podcast session, me and two of my buddies south of the Canadian border talk about returning home from out two years in the Netherlands. We discuss adjusting to home life coming from a dramatically different lifestyle and culture. Everything didn't exactly go smooth for us, but good lessons surely can be shared from it.

Turning your cringe moments into laughable material is said to be healing.  We get together and rack our brains for those stories that keep us awake at night and crying in the shower.

Me and Pramuka talk about things we wish we knew before starting our undergraduate degrees. Me having almost finished my second year, and Pramuka in a technical fifth year round off some extra courses, we talk about working towards a highly competitive and academically demanding future and small things that either helped us, or we wished had helped us near the beginning.

I talk with my sixth companion about a 12 week period fast gone by. We talk about special individuals we worked with, feeling about being away from home for Christmas and experiencing different holidays in the Netherlands. We also talk about visiting and African Church Holiday Service, endless Kerstol, and lessons learned from one another.

I choose this time to not talk with a companion, rather my friend from home, sharing what became one of the toughest six weeks emotionally on my mission. My self-confidence falls, I can't talk to anyone, and I learned how alone it was possible to feel.

I talk with my fifth companion about going from rougher beginning to crafting a lifelong friendship. We also discuss getting food poisoning, a confusing but possibly amazing missionary, and someone we both taught and grew to love despite what would be substantial differences.

I talk with my third companion and first ever trainee about having no clue what to teach him and getting very lucky in finding the right way to go about. We also talk about getting the surprise call to move our stuff all the way across the Netherlands in a new town, furthering our confusing attempt at work. Furthermore we discuss the interesting people we met, getting harassed by children, going from getting hit on to teaching, and more.
