We first tasted the regular Barrell Seagrass almost two years ago during a Last Call recap episode (Winter 2022), and we loved it. Recently, though, Brian the Whiskey Explorer came over and brought along its older brother, the Gray Label Seagrass. So, does 16 years of aging and a higher proof justify its higher price over the regular? Or are we in for a disappointing 15 minutes? To find out, you know what to do!

So, our Jack Daniel’s episode (Episode #56) is by far our most popular download, and if you’re listening to this, it’s almost guaranteed that you’ve already listened to that. But to recap, on that episode, we highlighted their two new (at the time) Bottled-in-Bond expressions—Tennessee Whiskey and Triple Mash (a mix of Tennessee, Rye, and Single Malt). Well, now they’ve released Bonded Rye, and Shavonne and Sue join us in order to answer the question: Does it match the deliciousness of their previous bonded expressions, or does it somehow fall short because they’re not really known for their ryes? Even though it sounds (and looks) like some legendary, newly revived, pre-Prohibition whiskey brand, Old Carter is actually only 6 years old, with virtually no backstory and zero ties to the history of whiskey in America. But you wouldn’t know it from the prices they charge or the cult following they’ve achieved. So, that begs the question: Is the ultra-premium, ultra-small-batch brand of sourced spirits all it purports to be? And how the hell did we even score a bottle?
