Am I Happy Yet?

by Hyphen

This podcasts looks at the inadequacies of societal expectations/guidance which are meant to deliver the outcome of happiness, but so often fail to do so. We all know someone who is in a job they hate, or relationship they don't want to be in because they think it is what they are 'meant to do.' How do we get our own happiness so wrong? Can we improve it?

Sex

49m · Published 03 Sep 12:00

Sex is taboo.

Most of what I grew up to think healthy sex was was defined by sitcoms like Friends or How I met your Mother.

The writers of those shows have a disproportionate influence on dialogues we have around sex, more so than sex therapists and other actual experts in this field.

I think this can lead to outcomes where we don't actually know how to have sex that we'll enjoy - we're just imitating what we think we are meant to do, rather than actually creating experience we want. It would be like only cooking food we thought we were meant to eat, rather than cooking food we actually want to eat.

So I'm delighted to have Sachin Hoyle who is CEO of Blueheart and one of my closest friends to talk about myths and misnomers around sex which lead to unfulfilling sex.

Surviving Death

39m · Published 29 Jul 08:00

Alex Hughes is my best friend and housemate. Last year his mother died and, shortly after, his brother, who lived with us, killed himself.

Alex is now as determined, funny and kind as he was before that happened. Most of all, he is happy. In this blog I summarise a conversation I had with him for my podcast 'Am I happy yet?' to explain how that could be possible.

Alex's brother was a kind soul and fantastic writer. He had an absent mindedness which reminded me a lot of myself. We talked about his dream to visit India one day. Seeing how Alex dealt with his death, so soon after his mother passed away, is the most inspirational thing I have ever witnessed.

I sincerely hope someone reading this can improve their understanding of how to 'survive death' and be happy again in the way that Alex has for me.
