Tim Kavanaugh, MD, on Alcoholism and Recovery

Tim Kavanaugh, MD, a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon, discusses his alcoholism and journey through recovery. Dr. Kavanaugh mentions his interactions with the Arizona Medical Board and provides recommendations to fellow physicians, too many of whom suffer in silence.

Dr. Kavanaugh has been practicing orthopedic surgery since 2002 and has performed over 8,000 joint procedures throughout his career. Before moving to Arizona to practice in 2019, he spent the first 17 years of his career treating patients in a private practice in Anchorage, Alaska. Dr. Kavanaugh attended medical school in Chicago and then completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Ohio State University Hospitals in Columbus, followed by a fellowship in joint replacement surgery in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is married to Deanna, a CRNA, and they have seven children.
