Mary and James are ex amish LGBTQ individuals who saw a need for resources for others from their community. They have created the podcast Plain Rainbows to amplify the voices of ex amish LGBTQ individuals and help build solidarity in the aftermath of shunning.
Mary Byler is the founder of The Misfit Amish llc, a project that seeks to create a secular location to provide information about Amish and Plain people in an attempt to bridge the gap between the Amish and Plain people and the English. Mary aims to provide resources for former Plain people as well. Mary also works to find and promote resources for Amish individuals who have suffered from sexual assault.
Rev. James Schwartz is a poet, writer, slam performer, speaker & author. His book THE LITERARY PARTY: GROWING UP GAY AND AMISH IN AMERICA was published by inGroup Press in 2011 + nominated for a Lambda Literary Award.
