Luke Hayman’s wide-ranging expertise encompasses the design of magazines, books, identities and exhibitions. He has served as the creative director of Travel + Leisure magazine, design director of New York magazine, and since 2006 has been a partner at Pentagram in New York. Hayman has served as the vice president of the Society of Publication and in 2011 was elected to the Alliance Graphique Internationale. He has lectured at design conferences in many countries. In this episode we spoke with Luke about the recent rebranding he did for mastercard.

Dan Kuhlken and Nathan Goldman were both drawn to music, film and design at an early age, but didn’t combine their talents until 2005 when the duo founded a design studio with the goal of fusing these creative avenues. The pair has found a niche in linking a personal and unique aesthetic to the world’s most talented and iconic musical artists, brands, and businesses including The Black Keys, Eric Clapton, The National, Jack White, Audi, Disney, Warner Brothers, DC Comics, Adobe, HBO, and MTV. Located in the mighty Pacific Northwest, Aaron Draplin, founder and owner of Draplin Design Co. , has proudly rolled up his sleeves on a number of projects related to the Print, Identity and Illustration. He created the Field Notes line of notebooks, and has done branding and design work for Coal Headwear, Union Binding Co., Esquire, Nike, Old 97s, Wired, Dinosaur Jr, Target, the Obama Administration, any many, many more clients. Gemma O’Brien is an Australian artist specialising in lettering, illustration and typography. After completing a Bachelor ofDesign at the College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Gemma worked as an art director at Animal Logic, Fuel VFX, and Toby & Pete before deciding to fly solo as a commercial illustrator in 2012. Her typographic work takes on a variety of forms, from calligraphic brushwork, illustration and digital type, to large scale hand-painted murals. She splits her time between advertising commissions, gallery shows, speaking engagements, and hosting hand-lettering workshops around the world. Her clients includePlayboy Magazine, Nike, Volcom Stone, Kirin, Heineken, QANTAS, and Diet Coke.A number of her projects have received the Award of Typographic Excellence from the New York Type Directors Club, and in 2015 she was recognised as an ADC Young Gun. Today we’ll be speaking with her about her recent installation titled MrsEaves 101: The handprinted typography of Gemma O’Brien, which was held at the Laguna College of Art & Design in Laguna Beach, California.

Kyle Tezak is the first graphic designer in a long, family line of morticians. He's worked on some brands you've heard of and plenty you haven't. After working at a big ad agency and a few small design firms, he decided to become a full-time freelancer in pursuit of fun projects and shorter hours...at least that's the plan. Noah Lambert is an independent product designer and a self-described "old car nut”. He gets excited about old stuff and simple stuff and really excited about stuff that’s both old and simple. He’s focused on the next big idea and confident it will arrive any day now. In this episode we’ll be speaking about the visual identity, advertising and wayfinding design work that Kyle created for the Mezzo 200, a 200-mile reliability trial for classic cars.

Jordan is a Grammy Nominated Art Director and designer with over 15 years of experience working in the technology, apparel, and entertainment industries, and he's worked extensively in both in-house and agency environments. Since 2013 he's been freelancing and running his own studio, Studio Workhorse, based in Seattle, WA. In this episode we'll discuss "No New Kinda Story", a feature length documentary and accompanying 200+ page coffee table book that Jordan designed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Tooth & Nail Records.

Jeff Sheldon is the founder and designer of Ugmonk, a brand focused on creating high quality, well-designed products. What started as a small side project to create and sell simple t-shirts has grown into a full-blown lifestyle brand which he now runs full time. Ugmonk has shipped thousands of products to over 65 countries around the world and has been featured on Uncrate, SwissMiss, Computer Arts, HOW Magazine and more. New York native Jon Contino is widely known for his uniquely distinct style. Handy with pen and paper, he's scribbled and sketched for companies like Nike, 20th Century Fox, Ford, American Eagle, and Jack Daniels. Over the last two decades, his work has appeared on magazine covers, shirts, album jackets, and national ad campaigns. In addition to running his studio, Jon is founder and creative director of Contino Brand menswear, cofounder and creative director of CXXVI Clothing Company, and brand manager for Past Lives. He lives in New York with his wife, Erin, and their daughter, Fiona. In this episode we'll discuss Jon's work for his own clothing brand, CXXVI Clothing.
