Double Page Spread ep 227- Andrew Shaw and Dan Pua
1h 0m · PublishedIt's the annual traditional visit of longtime friends of the podcast, Andrew Shaw and Dan Pua! This year they are wrapping up the best of summer, except apparently it isn't summer in Australia. But that doesn't stop them from discussing the best books and movies and cakes of the past 3 months! Wendi has had the "summer of bears" and more drama at the 2 banana job, Andrew's comic "Cul de Sac" is finally on Comixology, and Dan takes more pictures of his kitties. Apologies for the less than perfect audio, thank you for sticking with us!

Double Page Spread 226- Karl Slominski
54m · PublishedKarl Slominski is a real go getter- an ambitious artist who works in bright, psychedelic angles and colors, he has no hesitation in telling you what he wants and hopes to achieve. His art style is a refreshing mix of splashy paint and inky linework, best seen in the graphic novel, "Teeter Topple" which he also wrote- a twisty mental tale of a young man's breakdown. He is starting a new imprint called "New Noise" which will feature work from him, and his partner, screenwriter Jenna Lyn Wright. We talk about the balance of their relationship, their "meet cute", his new books "Alternauts" and "Cult of Ikarus", and things you can do with the Fantastic Four.

He discusses the inevitable "Walking Dead" comparisons and how it differs from "Lord of the Flies" or any other "teens in danger" tropes, and reaching out to libraries.
Then a quick chat with Luke Foster, who draws a funny ghost cartoon.

Double Page Spread ep 223- Michel Fiffe
1h 4m · PublishedEverything about artist/writer Michel Fiffe is crafted from a place of reverence, sincerity and respect. His long running indie comic, Copra, is a love letter to the 80s run of "Suicide Squad" and his work with Image Comics reimagining Rob Liefeld's "Bloodstrike" is not tongue in cheek in the slightest. Fiffe wears his influences well but shapes them through his unique independent lens. He and Wendi discuss these as well as the underrated impact of Kim Yale on women in comics, and a fascinating discussion of his correspondence with Steve Ditko and differentiating hating "fandom" but loving your fans.
audio note: there is an echo on Wendi's dialogue, hopefully you can bear through it for this great conversation.
