Hello Mogpies! Science is a tool that we use to answer life's greatest questions, to find cures for deadly diseases, connect the entire world through a screen...and discover some of the deadliest things known to man. In hopes of finding various cures to some of our most dangerous diseases some scientists developed an AI powered medical miracle machine. But they began to wonder what else is this technology capable of...sounds like a super hero movie plot, right? Well they reversed the program to instead look for chemical compounds that can do harm rather than help and what they found is rather terrifying. First, it was really simple to do and second this AI discovered new weapons of mass destruction that the world has never seen. Which means that it is untraceable and incurable. Now let's ask that hypothetical question, what would you do if you found a new super weapon? Tell everyone? Share the tech? But what if it got into the wrong hands? Well that is exactly what these scientists had to consider....

It also allows for a lot of hate speech and harassment to occur online where the culprits can get away with it rather easily. But what would happen if we remove the ability to hide ourselves online? What would we lose? What can be gained? Let's talk about it!

MOGPOD 62: Oh The Horror! Why We Love To Be Scared!

42m · Published 17 Oct 14:00

Hey there Mogpies! Let's keep this spooky train going! This week we wanted to talk about how the genre of horror has evolved over the years. A lot has changed since the early films. Things have gotten more intense, the stories have become more real and the viewers have become more desensitized to the content. As we get more habituated to seeing these scenes play out the creators have to come up with new exciting ways to scare us. Now we are in a period of horror with the "elevated horror films". This term can be a little weird for some because it is just horror films but they are giving horror a higher production and tackling some rather intense subjects.

MOGPOD 61: The Mind Of A Killer...Through The Lens Of Netflix! Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

37m · Published 10 Oct 14:00

October is the month for spooky shows and frightful stories being brought up again and again. Netflix has jumped on that idea with Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.  Instead of the typical documentary style showing of the grizzly events that took place this is a scripted show that is the interpretation of what really happened. These style shows often try to humanize the killer, giving a reason to their madness. Or showing them have remorse for some of their actions. But what is the purpose of this? Are we supposed to feel empathy for someone like Dahmer? Or is this just. re-opening a wound for the victim's families? It is important to remember the victims and remember the horrible things that. happen in this world so we can try. and stop them from ever happening again, but is this type of glorification really helping...Let's talk about it!

39m · Published 03 Oct 14:00

Hey there Mogpies! Pattern recognition is a way in which we measure intelligence, it allows us to quickly assess a situation or make decisions. But what happens when we rely on these patterns too heavily and allow them to impact our lives in a negative manner? Is looking for patterns what bring us addiction, patterns of abuse, gambling, mental health issues?  While it is undoubtedly important to look for patterns for our survival, especially. when it comes to evolution with "fight or flight" it is equally important to not fully trust your gut and evaluate your instincts.
