He was cut from his high school team in Atlanta, Georgia and went on to be inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame. The story of how he got there is a brilliant one. He had two stints in the NBA before the NBL came calling. He played with Barkley and against Jordan. He would win two championships with the Melbourne Tigers – a Grand Final MVP award in 1997 and develop one of the great Australian basketball partnerships with Andrew Gaze en route to having his famous number 21 singlet retired by the club. He is Lanard Copeland and this is his story.

Richard Garcia - Greats with Garby

Thanks for joining for another big episode of Greats with Garby and a chat with a man who has just landed the top job as coach of the Perth Glory in the A-League - his hometown club. A teen phenomenon he was signed by West Ham at just 15 years of age, went on to star in their FA Youth Cup winning team in 1999 alongside the likes of Joe Cole and his best mate Michael Carrick. He made his Premier League debut for the Hammers and also played in the world’s biggest league for Hull City and has been capped 17 times for the Socceroos including as a starter in that infamous opening clash of the 2010 World Cup against Germany.
