Episode 1- Absolute Awe: Johari's Birth Story

1h 9m · Published 17 Feb 18:33
Episode 1

Solo: This is the first of my 3 introductory episodes. I wanted to start the podcast off giving you an understanding of my background as a mother and professional in health settings. I also want you to understand what influences the way I cared for patients as a nurse, and what shapes my doula practice. You will also gain a full understanding of why my voice will always be loud in the maternal health crisis conversation-especially as it pertains to black women and the way we are treated in health care systems overall. These stories are very personal, and so I decided to leave them raw...meaning very little editing has been done for these stories as I wanted you to hear them the way I would tell these stories to close friends and family.

That leads me to this...I finally completely and wholly understand Erykah Badu's intro statement to Tyrone. "Now keep in mind that I'm an artist, and I'm sensitive about my shit." Lol, classic. I am new to podcasting and and all that it entails. The fear is real, but so is my goal, and my content, and the passion behind the work I do. I hope that you can rock out with me as I learn to perfect this craft. I appreciate you for being here. Love!

Topics covered: the birth of my eldest son, Johari; teen parenting, health care professional influences, competence in care, the strength of a name, adventures in the Tennessee mountains.
