Jesus Heals a Deaf Mute (Mark 7:31-37)

54m · Published 30 Jan 21:57
Mark 7:31-37 (NASB) 31 Again He went out from the region of Tyre, and came through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, within the region of Decapolis. 32 They brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they implored Him to lay His hand on him. 33 Jesus took him aside from the crowd, by himself, and put His fingers into his ears, and after spitting, He touched his tongue with the saliva; 34 and looking up to heaven with a deep sigh, He said to him, "Ephphatha!" that is, "Be opened!" 35 And his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was removed, and he began speaking plainly. 36 And He gave them orders not to tell anyone; but the more He ordered them, the more widely they continued to proclaim it. 37 They were utterly astonished, saying, "He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak." Sermon Theme/Outline: Jesus' phenomenal physical healings should cause us much amazement and wonder about who He is and point us to the supernatural spiritual healing He offers. 1) The Incredible Request (7:32)2) The Intimate Remedy (7:33-34)3) The Instantaneous Release (7:35)4) The Incorrigible Reaction (7:36-37

Genuine Faith Meets Amazing Grace (Mark 7:24-30)

53m · Published 23 Jan 22:35
Mark 7:24-30 (NASB) 24 Jesus got up and went away from there to the region of Tyre . And when He had entered a house, He wanted no one to know of it; yet He could not escape notice. 25 But after hearing of Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately came and fell at His feet. 26 Now the woman was a Gentile, of the Syrophoenician race. And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 And He was saying to her, "Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." 28 But she answered and said to Him, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table feed on the children's crumbs." 29 And He said to her, "Because of this answer go; the demon has gone out of your daughter." 30 And going back to her home, she found the child lying on the bed, the demon having left. Sermon Theme/Outline: Jesus is the object of faith who draws out the genuineness of faith in all who come to Him in truth. Five features of faith in Christ which illustrate what genuine trust in Him looks like. Do Not be Ashamed of the Gospel (2 Timothy 1:8-18)

36m · Published 02 Jan 21:46
1 Timothy 1:1-18 (NASB) 8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, 10 but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher. 12 For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. 13 Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. 15 You are aware of the fact that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains; 17 but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me- 18 the Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord on that day -and you know very well what services he rendered at Ephesus. Sermon Outline: How do we do that? 1) Identify with Christ (1:8-12) 2) Guard the Gospel (1:13-14) 3) Refresh those suffering with Christ (1:15-18)

The Heart of the Matter (Mark 7:14-23)

1h 0m · Published 27 Dec 00:08
Mark 7:14-23 (NASB) 14 After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them, “Listen to Me, all of you, and understand: 15 there is nothing outside the person which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which come out of the person are what defile the person.” 16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear. 17 And when He later entered a house, away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him about the parable. 18 And He *said to them, “Are you so lacking in understanding as well? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the person from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?” (Thereby He declared all foods clean.) 20 And He was saying, “That which comes out of the person, that is what defiles the person. 21 For from within, out of the hearts of people, come the evil thoughts, acts of sexual immorality, thefts, murders, acts of adultery, 22 deeds of greed, wickedness, deceit, indecent behavior, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile the person.” Sermon Theme/Outline: Our Lord teaches that the heart of our problem is that our hearts are the problem. 1) Listen to Jesus! (7:14-16) 2) Learn from Jesus! (7:17-23)

Simeon’s Reason for Living (Luke 2:25-32)

Luke 2:25-32 (NASB) 25 And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus,to carry out for Him the custom of the Law, 28 then he took Him in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 “Now, Lord, You are letting Your bond-servant depart in peace,According to Your word;30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation,31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all the peoples:32 A light for revelation for the Gentiles,And the glory of Your people Israel.”

The Wrongness of Rites (Mark 7:1-13)

1h 0m · Published 12 Dec 23:45
Mark 7:1-13 (NASB) 1 The Pharisees and some of the scribes gathered to Him after they came from Jerusalem, 2 and saw that some of His disciples were eating their bread with unholy hands, that is, unwashed. 3 (For the Pharisees and all the other Jews do not eat unless they carefully wash their hands, thereby holding firmly to the tradition of the elders; 4 and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they completely cleanse themselves; and there are many other things which they have received as traditions to firmly hold, such as the washing of cups, pitchers, and copper pots.) 5 And the Pharisees and the scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk in accordance with the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unholy hands?” 6 But He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips,But their heart is far away from Me.7 And in vain do they worship Me,Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.” 9 He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘The one who speaks evil of father or mother, is certainly to be put to death’; 11 but you say, ‘If a person says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is, given to God),’ 12 you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother; 13 thereby invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that. Sermon Theme/Outline: Jesus sternly corrects false teaching which places man-made rules and outward rituals above the truth of God’s Word. I. The Pharisees/Scribes confront Jesus (7:1-5) II. Jesus refutes the Pharisees/Scribes (7:6-13)

“My Savior Walks on Water!” (Mark 6:45-56)

45m · Published 05 Dec 22:45
Mark 6:45-56 (NASB) 45 And immediately Jesus had His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He Himself dismissed the crowd. 46 And after saying goodbye to them, He left for the mountain to pray. 47 When it was evening, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He was alone on the land. 48 Seeing them straining at the oars—for the wind was against them—at about the fourth watch of the night, He came to them, walking on the sea; and He intended to pass by them. 49 But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they thought that it was a ghost, and they cried out; 50 for they all saw Him and were terrified. But immediately He spoke with them and said to them, “Take courage; it is I, do not be afraid.” 51 Then He got into the boat with them, and the wind stopped; and they were utterly astonished, 52 for they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.53 When they had crossed over they came to land at Gennesaret, and moored at the shore. 54 And when they got out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him, 55 and ran about that entire country and began carrying here and there on their pallets those who were sick, to wherever they heard He was. 56 And wherever He entered villages, or cities, or a countryside, they were laying the sick in the marketplaces and imploring Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak; and all who touched it were being healed. Sermon Theme/Outline: No religious leader (or anyone else) in the history of the world compares to the God-Man Jesus Christ. 3 Aspects of Jesus’s identity which reveal the amazing uniqueness of Who He is and His exclusive worthiness to be followed 1) He is the Good Shepherd, in continual communion with the Father (6:45-46) 2) He is the Great I AM, sovereign Lord over nature (6:47-52) 3) He is the Gracious Physician, a mighty & compassionate healer (6:53-56)
