'For the Love of Learning' is a chance to hear fascinating discussions on: the women-shaped hole in our economy, why mother nature needs her daughters more than ever before, how women are fighting for diversity and making their mark in the world of STEM and the arts. From Caius college to the Metropolitan Police and the Royal Air Force: Tor Garnett and Christina Ostacchini talk to each other about leaving the Cambridge bubble for exciting lives in public service. They discuss how a rowing career prepared Christina for military training, and how frustrations with applying to the Met, led Tor to transform the way graduates join the police force. As women in uniform, they talk about more female styles of crisis management and how to inspire younger girls to consider careers like theirs. Inspiring and uplifting conversation with a dose of nostalgia for the college which "still feels like home". The last in the current season of 'For the Love of Learning', made to mark 40 years of women at Caius college.

Paving the Way in STEM

Last year, there were over one million women working in core-Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) roles in the UK – a first according to government data. Is this enough or do we still have a long way to go? A 1979 Caian, Erika Hagelberg who is Professor of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Oslo, shares her experience as a woman scientist: from early career and family life to her pioneering work on the extraction of DNA from ancient bones. She compares notes with Amy Dighe, a PhD student looking at the epidemiology of infectious diseases.
