Recycle, Refurb, Reuse – Can sustainability save us $$$?

12m · Published 06 Dec 21:00

Over 2018-19 Aussies generated a whopping 76 million tonnes of waste. How Australia deals with its trash has become one of the biggest sustainability issues of today. Yet when we hear the word ‘sustainability’ we tend to think of boujee brands with beautiful instagrams and crazy price tags. Can the rise of refurbishing, recycling, and reusing put those perceptions to bed and actually save us $$$? The Oiyo team sits down with Clean Up Australia’s Pip Kiernan, Johannah Maher, the Co-Founder of Impactr, and Matt O’Connor, Founder of Frank Mobile, to sift through the rubbish. Does money equal success?

13m · Published 16 Nov 05:00

In October 2020, the Australian Government announced a complete overhaul of its university fee system. Passing contentious laws to decrease the prices of degrees that they believe are more likely to get you a job after graduating, while dramatically increasing fees for degrees that they believe will not – humanities degrees. Does studying a certain degree over others really guarantee you a job and a stable income? The Oiyo team sits down with Ishara Sahama, Human Geographer and Community Organiser, to delve into why not all degrees are equal in the eyes of the Australian government.

What is financial abuse and how can we stop it?

11m · Published 02 Nov 03:00

Nationally, 1 in 6 women and 1 in 14 men were victims of economic abuse. For millennials alone, nearly 70% of women reportedly have experienced financial abuse by a romantic partner. So, why aren’t we hearing more about this and what can we do to help young people (specifically women) who are tackling this issue? The Oiyo team sits down with Dr Jozica Kutin, Economics, Finance and Marketing Researcher, and Mariam Mohammed, Co-Founder of MoneyGirl, to bring you some answers.
