Interactive Learning
by UPMCDecades of research in Physics and Astronomy Education have shown that traditional lecture is not very effective in promoting true conceptual understanding among students in science classes. Interactive Learning Strategies, based on research into students' beliefs and reasoning difficulties, are designed to promote active engagement by students in the classroom. Considerable research has shown that supplementing traditional instruction with these research-based, learner-centered activities helps students make impressive conceptual gains over traditional instruction. A review of research and an overview of instructional strategies will be provided, and modeled during this presentation. Active audience participation will be required, allowing participants to experience the effects of Interactive Learning directly.
