38. America, What Are We Doing...

19m · Published 11 Jan 14:18

America, what are we doing? As an American, this past week was nothing short of an embarrassment. What happened does not accurately portray who we are as a country. It does not accurately portray the democracy that so many men and woman have sacrificed their lives for. It does not accurately portray all that we have worked so hard and long for - the freedom of all individuals.

Here's the thing, being an American and having the freedoms that we do is a privilege. Those who stormed the US Capitol are nothing but extremists who are brainwashed by someone who would turn our democracy into a dictatorship if they could.

As Americans, it's time that we come together, stand as one, come together unity regardless of our political views, gender, or race. We are Americans, and more importantly, we are humans. A political agenda should never be an excuse behind the loss of life.

31. How To Stay Happier During This Winter With The Pandemic & Political Elections

21m · Published 16 Nov 13:00

Americans, and the rest of the world, could be in for a tough winter.

White House advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said that Americans should prepare for a harsh winter as the coronavirus is expected to surge due to cold weather and increased time indoors.

“We need to hunker down and get through this fall and winter because it’s not going to be easy,” Fauci told Harvard Medical School on Sept. 10.

That means Covid stress, Zoom happy hours, and bare shelves as the grocery store could once again become America’s reality. Combine that with the fact that we are going through a political election and both sides are exercising their rights to the extreme, and you have a recipe for disaster.

But it doesn't have to be that way. There are things that you can do that will make a difference.

Jeff Gardere, board-certified clinical psychologist and associate professor at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York City, says "Instead of approaching this with fear and trepidation and dread, we just need to prepare ourselves as much as possible."

Despite experiencing endless amounts of change over the course of the last 8 months, the changes we need to make don't necessarily need to be as drastic.

Here are some tangible tips that will help you maintain a positive and prepared mindset as the pandemic reaches into a new season.

29. The Power Of Kindness - How Being Kinder Has Improved My Life (5 Benefits Of Being Kind)

21m · Published 26 Oct 13:09

Kindness is such a simple concept, but yet it is often overlooked despite being so very impactful. Kindness, this one word, has the power to truly make the world a better place by ending any and all pain and suffering. It can end the pain and suffering that comes from war, hunger, human rights violations, and injustice. And not only that, but it also has the power to drastically improve our own well-being as well as those who are closest to us.

So what does it take to be kind? Actually, it takes less effort than you may think. Kindness is not something that demands tremendous amounts of hard work. It stems from the simple act of doing no harm to others. It is harder and takes more effort to harm or hate others than it does to practice kindness.

So, how can being kind change your life? What are some of the benefits of being kinder to others?

Here are 5 benefits of being kinder and how it can create a positive change in your life and in the lives of others.

Being kind makes us happier.

There is scientific research that proves that when you are kind to others, you are rewarded with boosts of dopamine, which is also known as the "feel good" chemical of the brain. When dopamine is produced, we experience a big surge of positive feelings. It's almost like a high and as though there isn't anything in the world that can bring you down. You are happy and nothing can stop you from feeling that way.

Being kind improves our health

When we are kind, we tend to hold onto less stress. As we all know, stress is one of the leading causes of heart disease.

Think about that for a moment. Think about all those times where you have taken aspirin for pain. What would have happened if you would have just practiced kindness? How would your overall health be different - be better - if you would have practiced kindness?

The fact that kindness is more powerful than a medicine is truly remarkable! The research found that those who regularly practice kindness also report lower blood pressure and suffer from depression less frequently. It is, though, important to know that being kind doesn’t mean we aren't going to have our goods days and our bad days. It just means that are good days will be more frequent and our bad days less frequent.

Being kind improves our relationships

Like attracts like. When you are kind to others, you will attract kinder individuals into your life. The relationships you have with others will be stronger, more meaningful, and much more enjoyable. Not only that, but the relationship you have with yourself will be so much better and so much stronger.

Being kind can help us live longer

Being kind is fun
