The Accent Podcast

by Rach

I have conversations about international students experiences in Australia, thriving and sometimes facing challenge. As an former international student, a social worker by heart and a professional in Australian International Education, I map out, deconstruct and unpack various topics that affect us and that have a potential to affect young ones who are starting their international education adventure. I hope these conversations give this community hope and that it inspires them to keep pushing. We don’t always have all the answers but it does help to know that you are not alone in the journey

Creativity is giving the world a peak to your soul. I get vulnerable :-) about the technical difficulties in the 1st episode. And a little bit about mental health issues, help seeking, stressful stuff we all go through, KASA roles and limitations & putting more thought into making changes such as study programs and institutions-here is a link that you might find useful: https://youtu.be/d5gxFkjztHg . I will bring in professionals to dig deeper into each of these topics I thought i should just summarise them here for now. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/raychRWK/message

Conversation with Kelvin about social issues, expectations and practical steps to do better

22m · Published 07 Mar 01:04
Kelvin’s post about his frustration about KASA's contribution or rather lack of contribution to student's lives. I have had such conversations almost a hundred times now about people's expectations of community associations, how impractical it is to expect something from an inanimate object- really because these association are made of individuals, so before you ask for what you get from such organisation, answer the question "What am I contributing?" Then elevate the conversation to making things happen instead of sitting back to watch and critic people in the arena :-). If questions are about holding people accountable, that’s a whole other story. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/raychRWK/message

Introduction to My Heart Project- Time to seriously talk about International Students in Australia

7m · Published 01 Mar 08:30
This My Heart project podcast is about mine and other people’s experiences of being international students in Australia. About how we grow and change over time, our challenges as a collective and as individuals, how we work through them and take responsibility, how we choose our study courses, relationship circles and community.. and all other shenanigans. The host is a former international student residing in Adelaide, South Australia, a social worker by heart, a marketer, of an international education agency and also served in the responsibility of a public relations officer of both the education agency and Kenyan community association in South Australia. She hopes that these conversations bring hope to students who listen to them and know that they are not alone, there’s help when they need it and seek it. And finally, she hopes that students give themselves permission to listen to their hearts and follow courageously. To connect and continue having these conversations on social, Instagram is @Raych_rwk, Facebook is Racheal Wambui Kariuki and LinkedIn Racheal Kariuki. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/raychRWK/message
