The Emotional Aftermath...

22m · Published 30 Jul 04:00
What people don't always tell you about broken bones is that it also comes with emotional pain as well. As most of you know, Ami suffered two broken wrists a few weeks ago in an attempt to soften our daughter Alexis' fall during a family bike ride. The physical pain was bad enough, but add the emotional pain that she is going through on top of it and it is almost unbearable. She can't cook, clean, or even dress herself. But she understands that this isn't forever... so how is she handling things? Listen to Justin and Ami McClure discuss this and much more in this week's episode of "We Love Our Kids, But..."!

Ami Broke Both Wrists Trying to Save Our Daughter

37m · Published 23 Jul 04:00
The title is unfortunately 100% true and not misleading. About two weeks ago, Ami broke both wrists in an attempt to save our daughter Alexis from a nasty bike accident. Since the fall, she has been physically and emotionally drained from the moment she wakes up to the moment she goes to sleep at night. Our friends and family have been the best support and we see all of your comments on social media as well. For all of this, we are very grateful. And Ami will bounce back in no time. They don't call us the Mighty McClures for nothing!
So I know what you are thinking... "Tell us what happened already!". Okay, fine here is the story. When Ami jumped off the bike... actually! To find out what happens next you will have to listen to this week's episode instead!

How Do We Talk to Our Children About Death?

21m · Published 09 Jul 04:00
Some things in life are inevitable. Change, disagreements, failure, mistakes... but also happiness, making memories, success and more. Death is also inevitable. For centuries, people have wondered and speculated what comes after death but the fact is that nobody knows (and we most likely won't know until it happens). About two weeks ago, we lost a friend to the family to cancer. She was joyful, full of energy, loving, and kind but most of all she was taken away from this Earth far too soon... Justin and Ami sit down this week to talk about if it's possible to prepare children for death. How does death affect a child when they personally know them? At what age do they actually understand passing away? Is it even possible to prepare a child for something like this? Find out in this week's episode of "We Love Our Kids, But.."!

Our Perception vs. Children's Perception

25m · Published 02 Jul 04:00
The mind of a 3-year old isn't the same as a fully grown adult's mind. Because of this, sometimes as adults we will attempt to think as a 3-year old in terms of what they are feeling or the way they perceive them. "Do my kids think I'm a bad dad because I overreacted in a situation?" or "are my kids actually happy?" are questions every mom or dad might ask themselves while parenting. In this week's episode, Justin and Ami sit down to discuss the ways they think their kids perceive them. From situation to situation, and from kid to kid, perception changes. Parents want only the best for their kids but each kid will see what "the best for them is" differently than the next. All parents can do is what they think is right in each situation and see how it plays out.
