#5 What are you grateful for?

2m · Published 17 Mar 09:24

Hello all you English Fans!

Since we can’t ignore the fact that the Coronavirus is the central theme at the moment, I thought I would take this time to help shift the focus a little in this strange but real situation.

Personally I’m experiencing different emotions. On the one hand I’m quite relaxed about everything and am happy to go with the flow. On the other hand I'm going through a range of emotions as I notice how people’s lives are being rearranged by this situation.

I am taking this opportunity to reflect on life, the universe and everything. And learning to trust the process of life. How are you responding to it? Is life carrying on as normal for you? Are you being more creative? Have you got more on your plate than usual? Maybe you need to stay home with your kids or stay home altogether because you have been quarantined.

So, with all these thoughts running through our heads I thought we could think about this question “What can I be grateful for in my life right now?” It could be the tiniest thing. For me it's my beautiful flowers that are blooming on my balcony and the fact that I can have afternoon coffee with my partner on a Tuesday afternoon.  What are you grateful for? Write it down – in English:)

I have an evening ritual where I write down three things every day which I'm grateful for and it always cheers me up.

Come share your bright moments with me on the

Facebook page @connectedtoeng

Let’s shine a light together.

#3 Building an English Habit

5m · Published 02 Mar 17:01

Hello all you English Fans!

So, a lot of you have probably learned English at school or you've done an English course (or both!) but now what?! Have you been using your English consistently since then? Have you been able to practice, improve and maintain your English on a weekly basis to keep it active in your brain?

If your answer is YES! That's fantastic:) Keep going! and let this podcast be part of your weekly English listening habit.

If your answer is NO. You're in the right place, because this podcast is here to help you build English into your weekly routine! So, well done for being here! High fives.

This of course reminds me of a little story...

Before you listen notice:

Which vocabulary is new for you? Write it down

Are you surprised by any of the grammar? Write it down

Write down everything that you’ve discovered in a little notebook dedicated to your English.

Let’s begin

(Listen to the story)

As I said earlier this podcast is the first step in the right direction. By listening to the podcast you start a weekly listening habit. And you start to incorporate English regularly into your life. Which is what you want to be doing. The only way to keep a language alive is to be interacting with it as often as possible.

If you would like a weekly reading habit, sign up for our weekly newsletter.

Link: http://bit.ly/CtoEnewsletter

Here you will be able to read the story a week in advance and then check the pronunciation, intonation and generally how it's spoken with the podcast. It’s a very basic page so don’t get a fright. It’s still a work in progress.

#1 Whacky Weather

2m · Published 17 Feb 17:20

Hello English Fans!

Welcome to the first ever episode on our Connected to English podcast. I’m really excited to be using this technology to help you improve your English listening skills! This is where you can practice and strengthen your listening skills each week through a little story. Our first one is all about Wacky Weather, since we’ve been having some whacky weather due to a few storms.

Ready to get started!

I'm currently sitting in my flat watching the whacky weather – changing from dark clouds to sunshine to storm. I don't know why but the crows seem to be enjoying this weather the most. Everytime it clears up they take to the sky and fly in their flock (or should I say murder - after all it's a flock of birds, but a murder of crows) .Personally, I'm quite happy to be indoors.

Check yourself:

Did you understand all the words?

What was new for you?

Why not post your thoughts on our facebook page @connectedtoeng

We’d love to hear from you. Till next week.
