On this show, I co-host with my dad on his podcast (NativeTalk.net) because we are both enrolled in a federally recognized Native American tribe (Puyallup out of Tacoma Washington). This time we talk about three precedent setting all new stage plays, in the three biggest Oregon theater companies written by Native Americans. We go over why it is interesting, and what the plays are about.  Then we continue the previous week's discussion about the difference between winners and losers, and how YOU can be a winner in life and avoid being a total waste of space. Listen to the show by downloading the audio file directly, and I'll have another podcast recorded soon (this time by myself) Comment anytime via email [email protected]

New Federally Recognized Tribes & Pacific NW Tribal Historical Cooking Habits

30m · Published 21 Jan 18:00
Jason helps his dad again today on the NativeTalk.net radio podcast to discuss the 566 federally recognized tribes here in America. However, that will soon be changing as the U.S. Senate has just sent a bill to the president which would recognize 6 Virginia tribes enabling them to compete for educational funding, repatriate the remains of their ancestors and bring them back home, as well as provide much needed access to health care for elder tribal members. Today on the NativeTalk.net radio podcast, we discuss this wonderful story, and acknowledge it as an issue of respect in honor of these tribes which are alive and well – surviving and thriving as a rich part of our Native heritage. We hope you feel the same way, and we hope you enjoy listening to the discussion by downloading the full audio file for all the story details. We also include the latest in our series on learning about the history of Pacific Northwestern Tribes in today’s lesson called “Clever Cooking” (which is the topic Jason chose). We answer questions on where they cooked, what they cooked, and how they did it. How did they boil water if their pots were made of cedar or woven baskets? We believe in learning as much as we can about our ancestors and their ways, and we will continue this series next week with another thrilling lesson & we hope you’ll join us for more stimulating Native Talk Radio. Thank you for listening!

We talk in about what it meant, how it was prepared, and some of the reasons a potlatch might be held. Finally, we finish with the legend of “How Raven Stole Crow’s Potlatch” which is a fantastic story that you will all enjoy.
