Oxford Economic and Social History Podcast

Dr Mary Elisabeth Cox is the William Golding Junior Research Fellow in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Brasenose College, Oxford, and a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow. In this interview she speaks about her recent book, Hunger in War & Peace, which explores the impact of the Allied blockade of Germany during the First World War on German civilians and the food aid program that followed the conflict.

Dora Costa is Professor of Economics at UCLA and this episode is a recording of her 2019 Hicks Lecture in Economic History. Professor Costa discussed her research on how the experience of Union Army prisoners of war during the American Civil War affected the health outcomes of their children.

Kevin O'Rourke is Professor of Economics at NYU-Abu Dhabi and was previously Chichele Professor of Economic History at Oxford. In this interview, conducted in May 2019, he discusses his recent book, A Short History of Brexit, which is available now from Pelican. Ryah Thomas is a PhD student at Somerville College at the University of Oxford. In this interview, she discusses her Master of Philosophy dissertation, which won the 2018 Charles Feinstein Prize for the best Oxford MPhil dissertation in Economic and Social History. 

Her research focuses on intergenerational mobility of migrants, and how to link women between censuses.
