Some Announcements

9m · Published 18 Sep 21:18

Heya folks! Bit of a sad one today with a couple announcements. Firstly, we’re very sorry to announce that we will be taking an extended break. Unfortunately, university takes a lot of time and so does this podcast, and we don’t want our quality to drop. We will be back, but a break is needed. Secondly, sadly Megan will not be joining us when we return. Megan’s recently found full-time work and sometimes you gotta prioritise. I would recommend listening to the episode for a better explanation so you can hear from Megan herself, but we hope you will be understanding of the break and why we’re taking it. Thank you all so much for your consistent support for this podcast. We honestly never expected be break the 1000 listeners a week mark, so this is incredible. I just hope you will all be around when we return. Love you all

Conversations: Evie - Open Doors

32m · Published 12 Sep 00:02

Welcome back friends to General Queeries! For todays episode we are joined by Evie Ryder from Open Doors! Open Doors is an LGBT youth service based in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, and a service that we’ve shouted out a number of times. In today’s episode we focus on the services that Open Doors provides, as well as a few events they hold throughout the year, and the goal of the organisation. It’s a slightly more serious episode this week but well worth the listen, especially if you are still new to the whole LGBT thing. Check a look and enjoy

Conversations: Kelsey - Always Listen to Kanye

4m · Published 18 Jul 05:29

Content Warning: Discussion of suicide and mental health

Hello everyone! Today we're revisited by our first ever guest Kelsey! Kelsey is back with a change in uni course and with a host of new topics to talk to us about. This episode we talk about the Gar'ban'djee'lum Network and Indigilez, two indiginous support networks, and the recent National Suicide Prevention campaign they have launched, called Yarn's Heal. Take a listen and enjoy the insight.

For those who don't know, "Sistergirl" and "Brotherboy" are terms used for transgender people within some Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities. Sistergirls and Brotherboys have distinct cultural identities and roles. Sistergirls are Indigenous women who were classified male at birth but live their lives as women, including taking on traditional cultural female practices. Brotherboys are Indigenous transgender people, whose bodies were considered female at birth but "choose to live their lives as male, regardless of which stage/path medically they choose."

Conversations: Missy - I will never turn my back on Ska

Discussions on Gender Dysphoria and misgendering

Heya Folks! Today we talk to Missy, a demisexual, bi/panromantic genderfluid person looking to get into teaching! Our conversation starts with an explanation of demisexuality and gender fluidity and the way the identities affect their day to day. From there we move onto ethics in Journalism and Missy's study on pronouns as an ethical issue while at university. Fair warning, this episode gets a little heavy on the gender topics so be ready for that, but it's an interesting listen and I hope you enjoy.

- Jonathan

Talking points: bad twerking, Megan's (bad) opinions about covers and remixes, gender euphoria and dysphoria
