Kimbery  presents from Edmonton, where she works as a registered psychologist delivering a range of workshops and seminars. Rand Teed is an addictions counsellor and drug and alcohol educator in the Regina region. He has done some AMAZING work unpacking and demystifying the psychological and physiological impacts of addiction. 

Rand’s book, referenced a few times in our conversation is called Which Way to Turn: Understanding Adolescent Substance Abuse, and is available as an ebook on Amazon, Indigo, and through your local public library. 

Before we start, be aware that this conversation includes discussion of substance abuse, addiction, and recovery.

Episode 6: Allyship with Jess Fisher

Jess Fisher works as the Gender Based Violence Education Coordinator from OUTSaskatoon - a queer and trans community resource centre in Saskatoon. This episode is following a presentation she gave  on language related to the 2SLGBTQ community and understanding the diversity of those around us. Here we expand the conversation on issues facing members of the 2SLGBTQ community and how best to understand our role as allies. 

Couple of things before we dive in, 2SLGBTQ stands for 2 Spirit Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer. We also cover issues such as violence toward women and domestic violence, so take that into consideration before you listen. That podcast I reference but don't name is called "Harsh Realities."

Sgt Langan “is a Salteaux/Cree Indigenous man from Keeseekoose First Nation, Sk. A graduate of the Indigenous Justice and Criminology Program at the University of Saskatchewan. John continues to apply his skills to his now full-time job as a police constable whilst serving his country with the Canadian Armed Forces part time”. 

John has recently released a book Iskocēs Tipiskak: A Spark in the Dark that focuses on his life experiences and Indigenous culture with a portion of the proceeds going to Wounded Warriors Canada. 

This presentation will explore: Sgt Langan’s military experiences, personal experiences, spirituality, Truth and Reconciliation, impact of residential schools and intergenerational trauma, brief history of Treat 4 and 6 territory. "
