When Ken Goldman Met Irving Scholar
20m · PublishedThe Premier League is back this weekend, and Tottenham Hotspur have been dominating the headlines in the run up to kick off. Whether it is the battle to keep their talismanic striker Harry Kane or the federal charges levelled at the "owner" Joe Lewis, the Spurs hierarchy, led by chairman Daniel Levy, have their hands full. So it's an interesting moment to look back at a previous era to see how leading a top flight football team has changed and to assess what has stayed the same.
In November 1984 my dad, Ken Goldman, sat down with newly installed Spurs chairman Irving Scholar to discuss his approach to running the club, the relationship between chairman and manager, transparency and communication, and his passion for Tottenham Hotspur. It's a fascinating insight into Scholar, Tottenham and English football in the pre-Premier League era. Enjoy!
