Epistle of 1Thessalonians 1:1 - Intro - Acts 17:2-3 - Historical Introduction to the Church of Thessalonica - Prog 02

25m · Published 30 Apr 12:00

Welcome once again to the Unchanging Word Bible study. We are continuing our studies in the books of 1st and 2nd Thessalonians.

Dr.Mitchell reviews the historical background of who, and how the Thessalonian church first began. The who was the Apostle Paul, the how was his reasoning from the Scriptures in the Jewish synagogue.

So, Dr. Mitchell takes a look at the message that Paul brought to them. His message centers around the prophesied Messiah found in several O.T. passages.

The Deity of the Messiah is found in Ps.45. His birth in Isa. 7:14 and 9:6. Psalms 22, and 69, Isa 50-53 speak of the death of the Messiah. Psalm 16 speaks of the resurrection of the Messiah. His ascension is found in Psalm 68 and His reigning on the throne of grace is found in Psalm 45 and His coming again in Zech. 12-14.

Here is ample evidence that this Jesus is indeed the promised Messiah.

Here is Dr. Mitchell in Acts 17.

Two of the men with Paul were members of this Colossian church. Onesimus was a slave of a friend of Paul's, who name was Philemon, and the other, Epaphras, a prayer warrior for this church.

Dr. Mitchell notes that the apostle Paul had something good to say about all these men, except for one. He explains why.

Epistle of Colossians 4:5-6,12 - Praying, Walking and Speaking in Wisdom - Prog 36

25m · Published 22 Apr 12:31

Dr. Mitchell once again reiterates the need for

continuing in prayer for the ministry. We are in Colossians chapter 4 verses 3 thru 6. He gives us an example of a military chaplain in Korea, who had a burden for prisoners of war. He presents proof of God's answer to prayer in a big way. A miracle of grace.

In verse 12, Dr. Mitchell shares the example of Epaphras who also was a prayer warrior.

He next takes up the importance of walking in wisdom towards those who do not know yet know Christ as savior. He speaks of our conduct in the world. We can witness for Christ as opportunities present themselves.

The love of God should be on our lips as we speak with people about our savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our study with Dr. Mitchell continues in Colossians chapter 3 verses 22 thru chapter 4 verse 2.

He will be covering business relationships, Christian servants and masters as when Paul wrote these verses, and today translates to employees and employers within a business environment.

He will conclude with Paul's exhortation to continue steadfastly in prayer being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

Do you work with a christian employer or employee?

The verses here in Col.3:22 are also echoed in Ephesians chapter 6 by the apostle Paul.

He wrote these two letters together while in prison in Rome. He also wrote similar words in 1 Timothy chapter 6 verses 1 and 2 specifically to christian employees.

You'll note that both the Lord Jesus and the apostle Paul worked with their hands in gainful employment as did Dr. Mitchell as a new Christian.
